INTRODUCTION

ESC’s effort has been to drape every INDIASOFT event with a unique
business proposition that integrates local competencies with global
competitiveness. Selection of academic

& IT

city
Hyderabad

was also

a
step in this direction. The exhibition received enormous response from
Hyderabad

in particular.

UNIQUE POSITIONING OF INDIASOFT 201
2

ESC has customized
INDIASOFT
as an exclusive showcase of Indian
software capabilities. Contrary to the emphasis of other IT related trade
shows,
INDIASOFT
i
s different in three ways.

First,

it i
s focused on home
-
grown software companies.

Secondly
, ESC
is

encouraging such Indian soft
ware companies which have
products / ser
vices with export potential,

Thirdly
, the emphasis i
s to showcase the achievements of the small and
medium enterprises (SMEs) which
make INDIASOFT

an exclusive
segment specific exhibition.

March 201

While welcoming the delegates,
Mr s Radhakrishnan
, Chairman, ESC said
that INDIASOFT would continuously upgrade its content and focus to
stay relevant to the IT

community.

He captured the progress made by the
event since its inception in 2001. “We are determined to take this
international event as a ‘
MUST ATTEND
‘exhibition to the IT community,
stated Mr
Radhakrishnan
.

He highlighted that there is a visible and
growing trend wherein more and more IT companies are developing their
own products rather than offering software services. About 60 companies
were launching their products during the event, he said.

Mr. J K
Dadoo
, Joint Secretary, Department of Commerce,, Ministry of
Commerce and Industry said that the quantum of e
-
commerce in India

11

would grow by 20 times from present level of US$ 300 million to close to
US$ 20 billion in 5
-
7 years, aided by the increasing in
ternet penetration in
the country. He also flag marked India’s IT potential in areas like cloud
computing, frugal engineering, satellite communications, production of
affordable tablets, digital set
-
ups etc. The accelerated digitization in
ministries like
Food, telecom, health, human resources will create million
of gainful jobs in the country, he added.

In his address,
Mr J. Satyanaryana
, Secretary, IT said that the Union
Government will soon roll out an electronics policy, which would envisage
an
electronics production target of $400 billion by 2020.

“The policy
deliberations are at an advanced stage and hopefully it will be finalised
shortly,” The policy would focus on five areas

creation of eco
-
system for
manufacture of electronics, exports, hu
man resource
d
evelopment, quality
standards and cyber security.

H
e said the new policy would give the

same
kind of importance to electronics manufacturing sector the software sector
got some years ago. “This is aimed

at giving a boost to overall exports
fr
om the country
.

The policy would stress on manufacture of semi
-
conductors, creation of
manufacturing clusters, identifying IT

investment centres for hardware
and software development. He said that the proposal to set up IT
Investment

Regions (ITIRs) acro
ss the country too was at an advanced
stage of clearance.

Stating that IT industry would cross the $90
-
billion
mark this year, he said that 31 mission modules had been set up

to ensure
passing on benefits of IT to people. “The Government spending on e
-
gove
rnance is increasing. So far $8

billion has been committed for this
purpose. This will generate jobs in the IT sector,” he said.

12

M
r Nalin Kohli
,

Past Chairman, ESC and Chairman, Organising
Committee, INDIASOFT 201
2

highlighted how INDIASOFT started and
how it is assisting to enhance the IT trade between India and the global
markets.

Significantly, many countries have made fervent attempt to elicit positive
responses from Indian IT players to invest in their countrie
s, in areas
including ERP, education, e
-
governance etc. Leading the increasing
number of delegates who are seeking Indian IT partners was the Costa
Rican Foreign Trade Minister
Ms Anabel Gonzalez
, who wanted India to
help her country in laying an IT backbo
ne to facilitate the IT revolution in
the country. She also wanted Indian investment in her country to serve
India’s increasing IT exposures in the US and Latin American countries.
“My country can be a springboard to Indian IT players to make their
footpri
nt at the expanding IT market in the Latin America,” she added.

Next one to seek Indian assistance in the development of IT was Mauritius
Information and Communication Technology Minister
Mr
Tassarajen
Pillay Chedumbrum
. He said that close cultural ties be
tween the two
countries can be leveraged for greater IT penetration in his country.
“Mauritius is undergoing an image makeover from a country known only
for tourism and plantations. We are making conscious effort to develop
our IT sector,” he added.

Shri P
onala Lakshmaiah,
Hon’ble Minister for IT & Communications,
Government of Andhra Pradesh

urged that the IT industry

needs to
increasingly take advantage of the Offset Policy governing the defense
imports to leverage the IT exports to the developed markets. The offset
policy allows India to export 30 percent of the total value of the defense
i
mports from a particular country to that destination. This would give a

13

great fillip to IT exports, particularly from the SME sector. He also wanted
ESC to create a digital platform for B2B operations primarily directed at
the SME sector.

Pitching for ea
rliest approval of the three ITIR projects submitted by the
Government of Andhra Pradesh to the central ministry, Mr. Lakshmaiah
said that 17 Ministries have already cleared the projects, including the
Planning Commission. The project is awaiting the clear
ance of the Union
IT ministry and hoped that the approval would be expedited at the
earliest. The Andhra Pradesh Government has earmarked 200 sq Kms for
three projects under ITIR, with a total outlay of Rs 2085 crore.

Dwelling on the remarkable feat achiev
ed by the state in the IT segment,
Mr. Lakshmaiah said that Andhra Pradesh exports close to Rs 35,000 crore
every year and has become the third largest IT exporting city in the
country. Till the end of 2011, Andhra Pradesh has created 279,000 direct
jobs i
n the IT sector. The state is also fast becoming a happening region for
the knowledge industry. One out of every third graduates passing out of
educational institutions is from the state, he added.

Mr. D K Sareen

in his
vote of thanks

mentioned about the s
pecial focus of
the INDIASOFT on the small and medium enterprises. Over the years, he
said that INDIASOFT has brought together many partnerships, which are
working well. He also mentioned that the
Hyderabad

edition of the
INDIASOFT is the largest one ever
organized.

He thanked all the
delegates, exhibitors, sponsors, co sponsors, support organizations in
making INDIASOFT 201
2

a grand success.

CONCLUSION

INDIASOFT 201
2

An Amalgam of Indian Knowledge and Enterprise
Competency

Being an integrated global IT exposition and networking platform,
INDIASOFT 201
2

facilitated business interactions between overseas and
Indian IT companies, which will lead to enhanced export of Indian
software & services in the near future.

Several Indian Exhibitors as well as majority of Foreign delegates have
quoted “INDIASOFT 201
2

turned out to be a great platform and was
comparable to any other international software exhibition across the
world”. Also, it was a great idea that exhibitors were introduced so
systematically while the delegates were also selected carefully.”

“I like
d the way Indian software companies interacted with us. It was all
very personal. Even the presentations were great. For example, a few
companies showed mobile applications on mobile phones just so we could
get a clear idea of how they would really look li
ke,” said another delegate
from
Canada
.

Many clients looked visibly impressed by the one
-
one
-
one interactions that
were made possible at the India Soft platform. Unlike European exhibitors,
Indian exhibitors showed an open attitude towards reaching out to

the
clients and had a closer interaction, quoted by a delegate from
France
.

INDIASOFT 201
2

also helped the foreign delegates know how qualified
Indian professionals are. They saw what it meant to mass
-
produce
developers the way India did. Most people in the industry in India are
management and engineering graduates who have the right skills to
work
in the software especially open source industry.

Commented a delegate from
Denmark
, “Indian professionals essentially
have three important qualities that distinguish them from their
counterparts in other countries. And they are: ambition, education a
nd
hospitality.”

I enjoyed presentations on security testing and mobile phone applications.
“I really enjoyed,” shared a delegate from
Dubai.

42

ESC is of the view that the organizing of INDIA SHOW like INDIASOFT
201
2

assists the Indian IT fraternity especially the tier 2 & 3 ones in
strengthening their foothold globally. The event assisted the participating
Indian IT fraternity to forge business and marketing tie ups, joint ventures,
with global buyers thus resulting

to enhance India’s IT services exports
globally.
