WATER QUALITY LAB WRITE
Type II Sedimentation
The class data for all the sedimentation tests have been posted on the course website. Please
prepare a formal lab report as outlined in the Water Quality Laboratory Manual
. Following is a
list of things that should be included in the lab report.
Introduction and Background:
What are different types of sedimentation?
Briefly describe the significance of Type II sedimentation in water and wastewater treatment
Note: should vary from Lab Manual)
Briefly state the basic principle
and process design procedure for Type II sedimentation
Summarize the experimental protocol used
Review the class data
size of sedimentation tank for
Q = 50 MLD and R = 75%
Discuss the precision & accuracy of your results and identify the possible experimental errors
Answer the following questions:
Why must a safety factor be placed
on the design detention time in practice?
Why is the sedimentation depth an important factor for Type II sedimentation in contrast
to Type I sedimentation?
What are the general trend of the sedimentation types as a function of solid concentration
What could be done to improve solids removal efficiency
Conclusions and Recommendation
List the main conclusions
Provide the recommendation how the experiment can be improved
