You should be writing this document if you are the business or product owner,
and you should be working in collaboration with a project manager and/or a
technical project manager.
A
Functional Specification should be as long as you
need it to be to descri
be how the idea that you had for improving Jobster in
your (now
-
approved) Business Requirements Document will actually work.

You should h
ave a solidly defined idea, a medium
-
level schedule, a budget (if
needed), and approval to proceed on this project. Yo
u will be completely clear
about
what other projects or existing functionality this project will impact,
and

upon which it may be dependant.
The final result of this document will be
a description of the project functionality that is so robust that if yo
u up and
moved to Paris, the software engineers could still implement the project
without you. The next step is a Technical Specification tha
t based on this
document, and a
solid schedule. Bonjour!

site users should be authorized using the same credentials as their Jobster

this functionality is not being implemented for the January 2007 release.

Below the navigation is the HELP box

Online Help.

"Available from 9a

3.2.5

Right sidebar

Here is a list of c
ontent types that can appear in

the right nav across

different sections of
the site
, with basic functionality defined.

(
See CONTENT sections in
3.3

3.8
below for
specific details).

3.2.5.1

Search

T
his one should appear as the first field in the right nav on every page of the site.
It searches all the content in the site.

3.2.5.2

Upcoming

Webinar feed

Contains a feed of upcoming webinars from the Jobster University section. Updates
in real time (when a date
passes, the course rolls off the listing
)
.

If a user clicks
the "See all webinars" link, he goes to the "Live webinar" page (in section 3.4.2
below). If a user clicks on any of the "register" links, it points to the registration
page (as shown
here
.)

3.2.5.3

Blog

posts

This area shows as RSS feed of the most recent blog posts (3
-
5 posts), and links to
the individual posts
.

Specific as follows:

3.2.5.3.1

Recent posts

List the titles (linked) of the last five posts.

3.2.5.3.2

Recent comments

List the last five
comments as shown in the visual spec: PERSONNAME on
THREAD NAME. PERSONNAME may link, if the person provides an email
address or URL. THREADNAME links to the comment in the thread.

3.2.5.3.3

Categories

These are tags basically. Can we have the ability to add and mod
ify these (and
to tag new content) as needed?

3.2.5.3.4

Re
lated links

A place to crosslink to other Jobster websites.

3.2.5.3.5

Archives

Pretty standard blog functionality. We want an archive, by month, available
from the blog. Once you hit an archive page, we're not limited

to 10 posts per
page; all the posts from the month can be listed straight down on the page.

3.2.5.4

Jobster Certified Recruiter

A promo image that links to the JCR page in the Jobster University area of the site.

3.2.5.5

Related topics

A list of related topics or links
to related help topics. These will be a bulleted list of
up to three items, and will be manually coded by the editor.

If no items are
manually entered, then this area will not show on that particular page (for
example, I have this field entered across all
Jobster University pages. But if one
particular page in the section has no related topics, then the box simply wouldn't
show).

3.2.5.6

Upcoming Event

A promo spot for the next upcoming event. This will be a content field, manually
set by the editors.

3.2.5.7

Customer Refe
rence Sheet

A list the editor can hardcode it, to point to a series of PDF files we have posted
elsewhere online.

3.2.6

F

No specific footer for this area of the site. The Jobster site
-
wide footer should show.

Inside Jobster

3.8.1

Main content

This page b
ehaves like a blog
. Refer to t
he visual specs noted below to follow along with
specifics.

Specific blog features:

Show the most r
ecent 10 articles per page.

Have ability to have a Post Introduction and a Post Continuation field,
so that the blog landing page doesn’t get outrageously long.

Ability to add new guest authors (unlimited).

Ability to comment without signing in (they can b
e prompted to enter
their name, email, URL. Have a "remember me on this site" option).

Don't force people posting comments to prove they're human with
those "what are these letter and number" fields. We'd rather just let
them post directly (but reserve the

right to change our minds, should
we start getting spammed).

offered, it goes to

3.10

CONTENT
: Help forum

Let's br
and it to look like Jobster and modify to our color palate.
Design to come.
Our topics
should be:

3.10.1.1

News and announcements

3.10.1.2

General announcements

3.10.1.3

3.10.2

3.10.2.1

3.10.2.2

We should also have the si

module only for the Forum. Please have the button say "Search Help Forum" so recruiters
know they're not searching the entire site.

3.11

CONTENT:
Online
Help
popup module
:

The Help section of

the site opens as a popup, in a smaller window with none of the
permanent navigational items.

It will look like this wireframe:

Here are the screenshots for Help:

Index page, no topics expanded

Help index, expanded:

Help topic

FUNCTIONITY OF THE HELP MODULE:

We need the ability to open this popup Help file from anywhere in the Jobster Recruiter
Community site, and also from the application itself.

We al
so need the ability to open the popup set to a specific topic in the Help tree, as
needed.

These topics needs to be searchable (by using Search above).

Themed to match the appropriate dimensions, as well as the Jobster branding.

The Glossary page is a disp
lay of Jobster terms from A
-
Z
(
http://jobster.blogs.com/community/2006/08/jobster_az.html
)

3.12

Search

The template for the Search page can be used for all one
-
off pages like 404 pag
es.

4.

Related changes:
this site will eventually link to the Jobster Recruiter Tool, but that is out of scope
for this project.

5.

Metrics requirements:
We use WebSideStory (Hitbox) reporting, so all pages will need the HBX
script in the headerfile.

6.

Compone
nt projects within the product
:
building help file system.

7.

Out of scope
:

integrating with Salesforce; integrating with Jobster Recruiter tool, integrating with
Jobster Corporate marketing website; integrating with Jobster.com site.

8.

Reference
:
The PRI radio

program “The World” has a great Drupal website:
http://theworld.org/

9.

Effort and Constraints

9.1

Effort Estimates and Milestones
:

medium
-
level effort estimates and milestones based on
resource and timeline from BRD

9.2

Assumpt
ions
:
We assume that the vendor in question is familiar with the various Drupal
modules and that most of the functionality of the site should fall into one of the modules. We
also assume that any custom work will be identified up
-
front so that we can modif
y the scope
in order to complete the project on time.

9.3

Dependencies
:
list any dependencies that your project has

time, resources, money, other
projects, etc.

9.4

Risks
:
what are the risks of doing this project? What about not doing it?
