T
SC Definition of DAM

o

http://wiki.hl7.org/index.php?title=Domain_Analysis_Model_ArB

o

Charlie Mead indicated that they cannot have project or DAM
and
should not be
DSTU unless it is

normative.

DAM is more than static model. Model can be normative
.

Can be added to agenda for January

Ed does not have immediate concerns about the definition

See if CIC has problems, if so we can recommend a change

DSTUs before becoming normative

How
do we create a DAM, there are many issues that need to be
discussed.

Talk with Hugh Glover regarding fire. If there is a resource that we have
input we should meet with that model.

Pharmacy is one group using fire. (Hammond)

Definition in the DAM for norm
ative.
Be sure there
’s

a link

in the
minutes
.

Are there logical models for all the DAMS?

o

Charlie is using Enterprise Architect rules for definition.

o

BRIDGE is DAM

Semantic Web used for Metadata Repositories

Short Background:

When Roche and Genentech mer
ged in 2010, they realized that
their data standards are all over the place and there was a need for a global meta
data repository.

Why there is a need for a MDR at Roche?

o

To register and manage metadata for use during the design, collection, analysis
an
d submission of Roche data to regulatory authorities.

To build up a rich knowledge base over time that includes clear and consistent
definitions of all of the concepts Roche uses and how they relate to each other

To accelerate the adoption of industry an
d internal standards

4

Roche is focusing on the end
-
to
-
end data standards from protocol to submission
covering the complete life cycle of clinical research data. They started developing
semantic models based on semantic Web tools (Resource Description Framew
ork
(RDF), SPARQL, ...) and developed RDF graphs starting with CDISC SDTM and later
linking SDTM to NCI Thesaurus.

Definitions:

Semantic Web:
The Semantic Web is a collaborative movement led by the
international standards body, the World Wide Web
Consortium (W3C). The standard
promotes common data formats on the World Wide Web. By encouraging the
inclusion of semantic content in web pages, the Semantic Web aims at converting
the current web dominated by unstructured and semi
-
structured documents in
to a
"web of data". The Semantic Web stack builds on the W3C's Resource Description
Framework (RDF).

Resource Description Framework (RDF):
is a family of World Wide Web Consortium
(W3C) specifications originally designed as a metadata data model. It has
come to be
used as a general method for conceptual description or modeling of information
that is implemented in web resources, using a variety of syntax formats.

o

Shortcoming: Learning curve to create your own RDF graphs.

o

NIH would be interested in knowi
ng if someone has better ideas and look at the
slides for the repositories.
