Using RRBDIN GIS Web Services
The RRBDIN Flood Forecast viewer makes use of several GIS web mapping services in the development
of the application. These mapping services are also available for consumption through ArcMap. To use
in ArcMap, use the following instructions:
Start ArcCatalog by selecting the Start Menu > All Programs > ArcGIS > ArcCatalog.
From the “catalog tree” on the left
hand side of the main window, expand the node that says

Select “Use GIS Services” and then click the button that says “Next >.”

Start ArcMap by selecting Start Menu > All Programs > ArcGIS > ArcMap.

Once you are in ArcMap, you can optionally add a basemap to the document.
basemap provides geospatial context for the content you are viewing. For example, you can use
Esri’s Topographic basemap
by selecting “Add Basemap” from the “Add Data” drop
Once you have added a basemap, you can now use the usual ArcMap pan and zoom tools to
navigate across the map. Zoom in to the Fargo
Moorhead area on the map.
Now click the “Add Data” button
from the main toolbar. From the main drop
down in the
navigation window, select “GIS Servers” from the list of options. We are going to look in the GIS
Server connection that we just created.

You can add any of the map services used in the web applications by selecting the service here. For
