Tutorial 1: Green
Communications and Networking: From Concept to Realization

Abstract:

The explosive development of ICT industry has emerged as one of the major sources
of world energy consumption. As a result,
having the information and communication networks
more energy
-
efficient (green) is one of the most critical issues for a sustainable future of the
whole world. In this tutorial, we first claim that the networks planning and operation should be
more energy
-
efficiency oriented and, in the meantime, the radio resources distributed over
heterogeneous cellular networks should be optimized in a global way, i.e., Globally Resource
-
optimized and Energy
-
Efficient Networks (GREEN). Then, we propose two new frameworks

called CHORUS (Collaborative and Harmonious Open radio Ubiquitous Systems) and TANGO
(Traffic
-
Aware Network planning and Green Operation) for GREEN, aiming at increasing the
energy efficiency from the system point of view while guaranteeing the coverage a
nd optimizing
radio resources as well. Some key technologies for the migration to CHORUS and TANGO are
then presented and evaluated. Theoretical modeling and simulation studies show that the
CHORUS and TANGO schemes can greatly improve the energy
-
efficienc
y of the cellular
networks, while the quality
-
of
-
services (QoS) can be kept at a satisfactory level. In the end, this
tutorial will give a comprehensive survey of the recent developments from algorithms to
practical applications in green wireless communica
tions, and summarize some open problems on
critical energy
-
efficient design issues.

The promise of LTE Advanced as next generation of mobile broadband offers huge
potential to service providers, application developers and wireless consumers. LTE Advanced
focus

on speed and capacity. For example for low mobility the data rate should be at 1Gbps for
low mobility and 100 Mbps for high mobility. The current 4G (LTE) is the leading wireless
mobile broadband technology and offers high spectral efficiency, low latency

and high peak data
rates. To improve further the speed and spectral efficiency, LTE Advanced provide the features
such as carrier aggregation, enhanced multiple input and multiple output (MIMO) and
heterogeneous network. LTE Advanced has being selected by

International Telecommunication
Union (ITU) as the technology for IMT Advanced for future mobile broadband. The tutorial will
cover the evolution from LTE towards LTE Advanced.

Centre (WCC), Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and currently
conducting research related to

4G for mobile communications, satellite communications,
antenna and propagation. He has also conducted various short courses related to mobile
and satellite communication to the telecommunication industry and government agencies since

988. Prof. Tharek has published more than 200 scientific papers in journals and conferences
and obtained many national and international awards. He is also a consultant for many
communication companies and an active member in several research academic enti
ties.

house networks. The focus is on the evolution of test requirements
and methods as the access network evolves towards all

IP network offering broadband services, operators are confronted with the question of how
to evolve their testing infrastructure. This talk begins by providing an overview of legacy test
methodologies and access networks, as well as their ob
jectives. We then discuss the evolution of
the access networks towards a broadband IP network and explain why traditional test
methodologies do not match well with the new network paradigms. Finally, the talk presents
home access broadband test strategy fo
r all

IP networks and some examples. It focus to reduce
CAPEX and suitable for both central office and cabinet employments in an all

doctoral research fellow and then as an Assistant Professor at Graduate School of Engineering,

research interest is in the fields of wire line and wireless communications with focus on: home
networking technology and architectures, management and diagnostics of home and access

iterative receivers, channel coding and hybrid ARQ, PAPR reduction, cooperative relaying,

Chair of the IEICE Europe Section. He was acting as a chair, review and technical program

engineering from BUET (Bangladesh), his M.S. degree in digital communication from
Loughborough University, , Loughbor

communication from Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. He has taught several
courses in communications, electronics, and signal processing at KUET, Khulna University, and
BRAC University during his care
er. Dr. Matin was a Visiting Academic Staff Member at the
National University of Malaysia (UKM), University of Malaya (UM), and so forth. He has
published over 60 refereed journals and conference papers. He is the author of six academic
books and seven boo
k chapters. He has presented invited talks in Bangladesh and Malaysia and
has served as a member of the program committee for more than 50 international conferences.
He also serves as a referee of a few renowned journals, and Keynote Speaker and Technical
Session Chair of few international conferences like MIC

CPE 2008, ICCIT 2008, ICMMT 2010,
ICCIT 2010, IEEE GLOBECOM 2010, and so forth. He currently serves as a Member of

Tutorial 5: Power Amplifier Efficiency in Wireless Communication Systems

Abstract
:
Broadband wireless access is a technology that provides connection over the air at
high speed between the users and the network. On this access network, frequency division
multiplexing (OFDM) system has generally been adopted because of its robustness agai
nst
intersymbol interference (ISI) and supports high data rate. However, the inverse fast Fourier
transform (IFFT) operations in OFDM causes constructive and destructive behaviour of the
frequency components and this would create high peak
-
to
-
average power

ratio (PAPR) problem.
The high PAPR signal when transmitted through a nonlinear PA creates spectral broadening and
increase the dynamic range requirement of the digital to analog converter (DAC) which will
result in an increase in the cost of the system a
nd a reduction in efficiency. This can be resolved
by applying the digital predistortion to the PA. In this tutorial the overview of the multiplexing
techniques and the most recent one which is OFDM will be introduced. Moreover the main
drawback of the OFD
M signal e. t. PAPR will be discussed and different PAPR techniques are
investigated. The tutorial will continue with discussion on one of the critical issues in wireless
communication systems, power efficiency and it provides the solution to mitigate the
power
consumption of mobile devices.


Biography
:
Bachelor degree in Electrical, Electronics Engineering from the Khaje Nasir
University, Tehran, Iran in 2002. Later, he received the Master and Ph.D. degrees in Wireless
Communications from Tarbiat Modares,
Tehran, Iran and Universiti Putra Malaysia, in 2005 and
2010, respectively. He is a member of IEEE since 2010. He has more than 5 years of experience
in designing and developing a range of electronic and telecommunication related projects. He is
currently
senior lecturer in UPM. He has conducted several workshops of Matlab and FPGA
programming in Sharif University in Iran and UPM, Malaysia.

In this talk, we will first give a brief review of some major advances in multicarrier
transmission and multiple access techniques, which shaped the development of the wireless
communications standards that came into existence over the past decade. The rev
iew includes
the development of OFDM and single
-
carrier transmission with frequency
-
domain equalization
(SC
-
FDE) as well as the birth of OFDMA and of single
-
carrier FDMA (SC
-
FDMA), which were
adopted by the Mobile WiMAX and the 3GPP LTE standards. We repor
t the results of a
comparison between OFDMA and SC
-
FDMA on a linear channel using different code rates in
the channel encoder. Next, we address the nonlinear distortion problems caused by the high
-
power amplifier (HPA) at the transmitter in wireless commun
ications systems and describe the
various techniques devised to compensate for this phenomenon in single
-
carrier and multicarrier
transmission. We emphasize the fact that the optimum operating point of the power amplifier
cannot be always achieved in pract
ice due to the stringent spectral masks imposed. We describe
ideal signal predistortion that is applicable to both single
-
carrier and multicarrier systems and
then we discuss peak
-
to
-
average power ratio (PAPR) reduction for multicarrier systems. We
point o
ut a recent result that the gain achieved in terms of PAPR does not translate in terms of
transmitted signal power for a given power amplifier.

Keynote 2: Green Communications

Abstract:
One of the key approaches to make the mobile communication networks more
GREEN (Globally Resource
-
optimized and Energy
-
Efficient Networks) is to have the cellular
architecture and radio resource allocation more adaptive to the environment and traffic
varia
tions, including making some lightly
-
loaded base stations (BSs) go to sleep. This is the
concept of so
-
called TANGO (Traffic
-
Aware Network planning and Green Operation) and
CHORUS (Collaborative and Harmonized Open Radio Ubiquitous Systems) published by th
e
author earlier. To realize this, a new cellular framework, named hyper
-
cellular networks (HCN),
has been proposed, in which the coverage of control signals is decoupled from the coverage of
data signals so that the data coverage can be more elastic in ac
cordance with the dynamics of
traffic characteristics and QoS requirements. Specifically, the data base stations (DBSs) in HCN
can be densely deployed during peak traffic time in order to satisfy the capacity requirement,
while a portion of DBSs can be swi
tched off or go to sleep mode if the traffic load is lower than
a threshold in order to save energy. A fundamental question then arises: how densely should the
DBSs be deployed in order to balance the QoS requirements and the energy consumption in
hyper ce
llular networks?


In this talk, we characterize the optimal DBS density for both homogeneous and heterogeneous
hyper cellular networks to minimize network cost with stochastic geometry theory. For
homogeneous cases, both upper and lower bounds of the opti
mal DBS density are derived. For
heterogeneous cases, our analysis reveals the best type of DBSs to be deployed for capacity
extension or to be switched off for energy saving. Specifically, if the ratio between the micro
DBS cost and the macro DBS cost is
lower than a threshold, which is a function of path loss and
their transmit power, then the optimal strategy is to deploy micro DBSs for capacity extension or
to switch off macro DBSs (if possible) for energy saving with higher priority. Otherwise, the
opt
imal strategy is the opposite. Based on the parameters from EARTH, numerical results show
that in the dense urban scenario, compared to the traditional macro
-
only homogeneous cellular
network with no DBS sleeping, deploying micro DBSs can reduce about 40%
of the total energy
cost, and further reduce about 20% with DBS sleeping capability.

graduated from Northern Jiaotong University, Beijing,
China, in 1985, and got his M.E. and D.E. degrees from Toyohashi University of Tec
hnology,
Toyohashi, Japan, in 1989 and 1992, respectively. After spending two years at Fujitsu
Laboratories Ltd., Kawasaki, Japan, he joined with Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 1994,
where he is now a professor at the Department of Electronic Engi
neering. His current research
interests include teletraffic theory, mobile Internet, radio resource management of wireless
networks, and green communication and networks.


Prof. Niu has been studying on green communications since 2007 and published extensi
