With an aim

M.S in Embedded Systems, I have heard more than once that
my bachelor's degree

in Mechatronic

Engineering will be a

disadvantage
. However, I

have

stuck to my dreams firmly for two

years
.
To

me,
the

type of
an academic

egree
should

not
be
a
criterion

to measure my backgrounds

y endeavor to
prepare myself
has enabled me to explore my interests in deeper and wider areas.


For the past four years,
I worked diligently in my studies

for three years
. I was the only student in the record of my school who
ranked the top 1 over more than 200 students

consecutive
years, with overall

in the final
year.

More importantly,

by comparing different courses

Embedded System

PID control algorithm

a diode based thermometer

mastered the principles of o

mplifier

ircuit

icro
processor

rchitecture

.

The contest was highly competitive with over 50 teams,
but a
s a result

of
our

dedication

my team

won the Second Prize and
I
stood out as one
who was

able to teach
himself

effectively.

research continued as

I entered
the


UESTC

UEC International Remote Robot
Development Laboratory
,


which recruited
only
very few members every year.
I had
a significant experience in the lab

where I

extend
ed

my research with its

rojects. In
project
"Networked Surveillance System for Dangerous Materials' Storage and
Transportation,"

which
include
s a mobile robot working in complex environment,
I
designed
a robust
wireless communication

system

between robotic devices and a PC.

In another project
named
“Visual Fatigue Detection

System

Based on Image
Processing,”

my task was to research on
a core algorithm

AdaBoost algorithm
,

to
locate faces

and eyes
.


In the
following
summer, I
competed in

“National Undergraduate Mechanical
Innovation

Competition
.


Financial problems always prevented
my team

from
putting

our creative ideas

into practice
. Thankfully,
we were one of the few teams
which had received strong support from
our school

the First Prize

ince then, I
realized the importance of financial support and began to

foundation

part of
my scholarship, hoping

to assist my classmates with insufficient funds in

Embedded Systems is a broad concept

hoped to further my study in United States, which has reached
its pinnacle on these topics.
For this reason, I’m intrigued by the program EMBS in
University of Pennsylvania; courses like
“Real

ti
me and embedded systems”
,
“Networked Systems”
fit my interests exactly. If admitted, I’m sure I can finish my
graduate work successfully with the guidance of distinguished faculties in PRECISE
as well as my previous preparation. Meanwhile, I will take acti
ons to show that my
endeavor could bring reputation to this new program in the future.


Upon graduation, I expect to find a stable job in the United States. I believe the
reputation of University of Pennsylvania and my own capability can help achieve my
go
al. In the long run, I expect to work in a prestigious company in the western region
of China. Since cities in the western region are rapidly developing, I would like to be
a technical director to orient researches to fit the markets, which in turn, can pr
omote
the development of the western region of China.
