Overview

of project

Customer profiling has recently gained much recognition in the e

commerce domain
because of the benefits it is capable of bringing to online businesses. Recent studies
have shown that many organisations are now implementing systems us

service

oriented architecture (
SOA
)
. The main objective of this research is to find out how a
customer pr
ofile can be implemented using

SOA. A comparative analysis will also be
conducted on customer profiles implementation using SOA and implementation
using
other
existing
architectures, such as client
-
server.

Progress

since last report

Preliminary l
iterature study on SOA and customer profiling has been completed, service
-
oriented analysis and design has been completed and the research is in
its
imple
mentation
phase using
open source
Sun Java SOA implementation too
ls, such as Open ESB, Netbeans
and
Glassfish application server.

Problems encountered

Interoperability problems between Netbeans and MS SQL server

Learning to use Sun Java SOA implementation

tools

Irreconcilable literature on SOA, for example
,

different approaches to SOA exist
from some major SOA drivers such as Microsoft and IBM

Achievements

Service
-
oriented analysis and design (SOAD) conducted using IBM’s Service
-
oriented modelling archite
cture (SOMA)

Implementation of customer profiling services in progress using Java web service
(JWS) technology
