APPENDIX 4


INSTALLERS CODE OF PRACTICE

FOR INSTALLING ANY FERROB EQUIPMENT

IN PRIVATE
DWELLINGS AND OTHER BUILDINGS



1.

Introduce yourself to householder or the person responsible for the building. Always


have identification badge available if required.


2.

Ensure householder is aware of installation procedure in general terms, i.e. sequence o
f
works, rooms and areas to which access will be required.


3.

Locate suitable area for installation paying particular attention to survey report schedule.
Explain to residents siting of equipment, trunking runs etc.


4.

Any problems/queries relating to this mu
st be reported direct back to head office for

clarification by the customer.


5.

Examine the works areas, and inform the householder of installers requirements.

Ensure the following minimum requirements are considered and explained to the

householder:

1.

especially remove any breakable items from the immediate proximity;

Clarify with the resident any access required whilst the installation is taking

place. If access is to be required durin
g this time, liaise with resident regarding
safety procedures etc.

Ascertain whether there are other occupants in the dwelling, clarify their ages,
(old or young) and ensure that they are aware of any dangers. If possible ensure
children and others are n
ot able to approach the work area;


4.

Isolate the work area whenever possible;


5.

Determine which electrical power p

ints may be used;


6.

Cover or remove any equipment or areas that may be affected by dust etc.


7.

Ensure drilling and cutting requirements are known

to the householder;


8.

Ensure permission is given for positioning of ladders, access platforms etc.

If the area and tools are to be left unattended, ensure safe working practice, i.e.
disconnect power tools etc.


7.

Complete the works efficiently, quickly and

with as little disruption as possible to the

householder in accordance with the normal installation and safety procedures.


8.

On completion of the works ensure that the work area is completely clear of any debris,
waste, rubbish, packaging etc. that result
s from the installation, e.g. clear up in general,
area of work including sweeping etc. remove all waste goods, packaging, rubbish etc.

9.

Inform the householder when the works are complete. Ask if the area is satisfactorily
cleaned, ensure that the resident is fully aware of the operation of the equipment and leave

care booklet with them.

work that has been done.


11. Engineers are not to carry

out any other work than what is requested by the head office
and under not cir
cumstances should gratuities/gifts be accepted (beverages not included).

The Company Managing Director with overall
responsibility for Health and Safety
has special responsibility to ensure that an effective organisation exists and that
adequate resources are available to implement the Health and Safety policy.

The Production Manager has special responsibility for imple
menting the Policy and
carrying out risk assessments in the production areas, stores warehouse, purchasing
and associated activities.

The Office Manager has special responsibility for implementing the Policy and
carrying out risk assessments in the General

Office areas.

The Quality Manager has special responsibility for ensuring that risk assessments
are carried out and updated by Company Managers.

The Clerk of the Works is responsible for supervising the work of Installers.

The Clerk of the Works is respon
sible for assessing the competence of
subcontractors

and for obtaining their written acceptance of the company Health &
Safety Policy
.

The Installers are responsible for the direct safety of the installation work they are
carrying out on site. Where there

is any doubt about the safety of the work then the
matter should be brought to the attention of the client or Clerk of the Works, as
appropriate, for rectification or clarification before the work proceeds.
