Human Consciousness: State of Mind

What is consciousness? What is human? What is reality? How is the latest research in science
and technology affecting the human mind and our
understanding of the universe? How does
the culture we live in influence our thinking? What is thinking? This class will approach such
questions by considering current perspectives in quantum physics, neurology, biochemistry,
and acoustic technology in add
ition to philosophical, psychological and social theories of
mind and behavior. Practice in listening and reading comprehension and in writing an
argumentative essay will provide preparation for the AP exam. Pass/Fail will be based on
class assignments, ac
tive participation in discussions, and regular attendance.
