Check Out the 35 Finalists in Mozilla's HTML5 Gaming Challenge
The future of HTML5 gaming might be bright, but the present still needs quite a bit of work.
Mozilla has been encouraging developers to start working on games built with HTML5 and
related technologies to highlight that open, standard technologies could be an alternative to
the proprietary Flash.
The Game On competition, designed to surface great games built with HTML5 and
company has reached the late stages and the
35 finalists
have now been revealed.
From the 35 games, winners in several categories will be picked by the panel of judges. The
community can also weigh in and pick a fan favorite.
"Congratulations to the 35 games that have been selected by our jury to be Game On
finalists! These games were the top qualified entries in the Game
On 2010 Competition and are being evaluated by our expert judges for prize awards.
Winners will be announced on Thursday, February 3," Mozilla announced.
The Game On 2010 Competition has been under way for a few months now. In early fall
last year, Mozilla announced a project to get people more excited about HTML5 gaming.
It asked the community to get involved and come up with games that showcase the
technology but are, of course, also fun. There have plenty of entries, some good some less
so.
From the 160 entries,
124 were deemed good enough
to be presented in the Game On
Gallery. Of those, 35 have now been chosen for the final round.
"Due to the awesome response from our wider community, we have extended the voting
period for the Community Choice award until February 1," Mozilla wrote.
"Take 5 minutes (or hours…) to play some magnificent games and vote your favorites
for the Game On Community Choice award. We will be randomly selecting three lucky
voters and send you a special-edition Mozilla Labs Game On swag pack!," it added.
