This position requires shift work: Wednesday 7:00a.m. – 3:30p.m., Thursday – Friday 3:00p.m. – 11:30p.m. and Saturday
– Sunday 11:00p.m. – 7:30a.m.
General Description
Positions allocated to this class are responsible for the operation of multiple central or backup site mainframe computer systems
as well as computer peripheral equipment. They are also responsible for monitoring the computer systems for system efficiency
on an assigned shift.




















Examples of Work Performed

Operates all components of the computer system and its peripheral equipment. 
Helps to plan workloads, work flows, and priorities for job scheduling. 
Checks production frequently and makes corrections necessary to complete assigned work on schedule.
Maintains operating records such as production and performance reports. 
Monitors environment and power supplies for proper operating condition.
Trains lower level computer operators as needed. 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of data processing operations, equipment, procedures, and workflow. 
Knowledge of basic terminology and procedures in the area of data processing. 
Skill in operating a variety of data processing equipment.

Ability to detect data processing equipment malfunctions. 
Ability to work independently. 
Ability to read and understand technical data processing publications.

Minimum Qualifications
A high school diploma or its equivalent and two (2) years of experience in the operation of a computer mainframe and computer
peripheral equipment, or
A high school diploma and its equivalent, one (1) year of experience in the operation of a computer mainframe or computer
peripheral equipment, and completion of a program of study from a vocational/technical school or data processing vendor in an
area of data processing (excluding data entry) with a minimum of 720 hours of classroom instruction.
College course work may be substituted at the rate of thirty (30) semester or forty five (45) quarter hours for one year of the
required work experience provided the course work included at least four (4) courses in an area of data processing other than
data entry.
