The University has very successfully achieved the tremendous task of bringing various colleges
affiliated earlier to different Universities, with different syllabi,

different procedures and
different traditions under one umbrella. The University implemented common curriculum for
UG in 1998 and revised syllabi again in 2002 for all the courses and uniform procedures were
adopted. As a further step in standardization,
the subjects & syllabi of related branches are
being made common up to the fourth semester. The University has already revised the syllabus
of MBA with effect from the academic year 2001

2002 and has now revised the syllabi of all M

Tech courses & MCA. The

University plans to bring in further flexibility in the curriculum, so that
any changes or revisions may be introduced particularly with respect to electives, as and when

Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering
:

Instrumentation is a very broad area in the sense that it has an interdisciplinary character.
There is a proliferation of a variety of
Instrumentation systems for a variety of purpose.

There is hardly any area of Engineering, Science and Technology where Instrumentation in one
form or the other is not needed. As a certain process is becoming more and more automated,
the need for a closer
monitoring of inputs and responses become more obligatory and the
instruments at the component and sub
-

system levels tend to become more and more
integrated. Full cognizance has been taken of this situation while planning instruction in this
area. Studen
ts do intensive use of microprocessors and Computers to understand the hardware
and software aspect of Intelligent Instrumentation.

Started in 1989, this rather young division offers many courses in Electrical, Electronics and
Computer Engineering also apa
rt from a variety of courses from Instrumentation Technology,
modern control theory, Biomedical Instrumentation, Robotics, Industrial Electronics, Computer
Controlled Instrumentation, Artificial Intelligence etc.

The Curriculum for Instrumenta
tion has many courses in common with Electronics and
Computers, apart from several in Process Control and Instrumentation. Most of the
Laboratories are therefore shared with those of the Electronics and Computers branches. A few

The Civil Engineering Department with its dynamic and adept faculty has provided an
outstanding contribution to the discipline. Our unique approach of theoretical knowledge and
practical application of sk
ills make our students well prepared for their future careers.


Software packages like AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Map 3D, Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis
Professional and Autodesk 3ds Max design allows our students to expand their skills and
provide an adequate

platform to perform analysis, design and drawing for a wide range of civil
engineering buildings and other heavy structures viz. Roads, bridges, flyovers, dams, canals,
bunkers & silos, cooling towers, power plants etc.

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING:

DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in 1997. The department has
grown leaps and bounds since then. Mechanical Department has its own block housing all the
laboratories, workshops, and lecture halls and staff rooms. It has a student population of 300
with an annual intake of 90. The department is well equipped with stat

laboratories, workshops & infrastructural facilities. The machine shop has a CNC lathe besides
conventional lathes, milling machines, drilling machines, etc. The department has excellent
computational facilities and resources both in terms
of hardware and software. The
department has 125 computers loaded with a wide range of software Packages.


The department has faculty members from all specializations of mechanical engineering
namely, Thermal, Design, Manufacturing and Management. The
faculty members are not only
qualified but have good experience in teaching and research. Five faculty members are pursuing
their doctoral program. The supporting staffs are qualified, experienced, and skilled.


T
he department also offers an M.Tech program

in Computational Analysis in Mechanical
Sciences (CAMS) since 2009. This specialization is first of its kind under VTU. The department
has a vision to establish an R & D centre in the next academic year. ‘Crusades’ is an annual
technical fest conducted by

the department to exhibit hidden talents of students and also to
hone leadership skills of budding engineers. Mechanical Engineering Department is currently
under the able guidance of Sri G. B. Krishnappa who is pursuing his Ph.D in the field of
Cryogenic
s under VTU, and has worked in academic institutions of international repute.

The fluid machinery and mechanics laboratory is well equipped with Turbines, Pumps and other
flow devices; the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory is vast and well organized. The laboratory
is equipped with Cut models of Engines, Refrigeration systems, etc.
, It has drilling machines,
welding machines, lathes etc. Surplus tools and instruments are available for training the
students.


Department of Physics
:

The Department was established along with the Institution in the year 1963. The academic
activities of
the department are teaching, research and conducting workshops, seminars, guest
lecturers

form the resource full persons from other research centers. The department of
Physics has been recognized as a research center of VTU, Belgaum.


The Department impart
s education in Basic Science both in theory and through experiments.
The objective is to create the basic firm foundation required by the engineers to plan for
appropriate applications of the materials, objects and the material science studied under the
sc
ience education which in turn provides them the tool for the choice of the proper plan for the
right application.


The Department is located in the Administrative block of the college. The Department cum Lab
is in the first floor of the AB

The Department of Mathematics came into existence purely as a service department when
Dr. Pauls Engineering College

was started in 1988


affiliated to the University of Madras.

Subsequently in the year 2003, when the college

was upgraded into a Deemed University by
the UGC, the department of Mathematics was given an independent status and was granted
the permission to conduct a two

year Post

Graduate Programme, M.Sc (Industrial
Mathematics).

We are offering Ph.D programmes in

several areas both in pure and applied Mathematics.

To inculcate the students of Engineering & Technology for using their right mathematical

Rules & Regulations
:

Students have to abide by the rules and regulations of the college framed in accordance with
the norms set by the Government, the University
and the Authorities of the College.

Transfer Certificate

No T.C. will be issued to those who owe dues to the college. No fee will be levied from those
who apply for T.C. within one year after leaving the college. A fee of Rs. 50/
-

will be levied from
those

who apply for T.C. after the lapse of one year from the date of leaving the college. An
additional fee of Rs.100/
-

will be levied from those who apply for duplicate copy of the T.C.
(with the recommendation of a first class magistrate). Every student shou
ld take his/ her T.C. at
the end of his/her course and produce it when he/she is admitted for the next course. 48 hours
notice is needed for issuing the certificate.


Rules of Attendance

Students should be punctual to the college. No student shall abstain
from the college without
permission. Attendance shall be marked at the beginning of each period.

Students are advised to compulsorily submit their leave applications when they take leave. The
application for leave is available from the college office at th
e rate of Re. 1 per form.

The application for duty leave will be available from the college free of cost.

Students should submit the leave application and get it approved on the same day of reporting
at the college after availing leave. For late submission

of leave applications, a fine of Re. 5/
-

per
day will be charged.

Application for duty leave should be submitted within 7 days of reporting at the college after
availing leave. Late applications for duty leave will not be accepted under any circumstances.

Students absenting themselves without leave for more than 15 consecutive working days will
have their names removed from the rolls and they will have to pay all college fees due before
they are readmitted.

Students will be permitted to register and appear

for the semester examinations only if they
secure not less than 75% of attendance in the respective semester. The University shall have
the power to condone shortage of attendance up to 15% on valid ground if recommended by
the Head of the institution.

If

a student is absent for one period it will be treated as absent for half day and he/she is absent
for two or more periods, it will be treated as absence for one full day.

The Maximum number of times a student can avail of the facility of condonation of s
hortage of
attendance is limited to two during the entire course.

Students’ applications for condonation of shortage of attendance will be considered only if

Warning

Smoking, alcoholic drinks

Any behavior unbecoming of a student both inside and outside the class will be severely dealt
with.

Students are warned against entertaining outsiders in the college premises during

class hours.

Perfect silence should be maintained in the college during class hours.

No student is allowed to go outside the campus without the permission of the Principal.


Issue of Certificates

Students requiring certificates of transfer, character and
conduct, course, marks, identification,
extracurricular activities etc. should submit an application to the Principal, stating the Name,
Year of Study, Class No, Semester and Subject. They are advised to give a notice 48 hours prior
to the issue of certifi
cates.

Dress Code


Students are expected to conform the dress regulations laid down by the college and dress
modestly. Ladies must wear saree or churidhar and men must wear shirt, tie and pants.

A home away from home’, is the concept of hostels in HKBKCE. We provide the best
possible comfort needed for students. The number of students accommodated in a room
depends on the semester. As the concentration and privacy required is more

as a student
progresses to final year accordingly the accommodation is provided.


There are mess facilities
one for first year and the other for seniors. There are exclusive Vegetarian and Non

mess facilities. The hostelites are provided with s

facilities for students. The overall capacity of the boys hostel is around 400 & that of the girls is

Ragging is strictly prohibited in the hostel & if any student is found indulging in such activity, he

will be expelled from the hostel or rusticated.

undertaking is taken from the student
before he / she gets the hostel accommodation along with the ragging undertaking.


The overall
hostel fees inclusive of boarding, lodging, etc is Rs. 50,000 per year
. The hostel gates will be
closed by 8 PM in the evening.


Every year hostel day is celebrated in the month of May.




Transport facilities
:

A full fledged Transport department functions in the college to provide transport facility to
students and staff fr
om various places. These college buses are regularly operated for providing
transport facilities to all staff and students from different corners of Bangalore to the college
and back. Free bus service is provided to the students of the hostel. Experienced
drivers take
care of all the driving & maintenance of all the college vehicles. This service is offered ensuring
a hassle

free and safe transportation

There are two college vans which cater for examination purposes, emergency, placement
activities. The bus
es are also used by the students for industrial visits, company visits, etc. A
college car also caters for the ferrying of the Principal. The College runs 10 buses for providing
transport facility to students & staff

from various places in the city. The nu
mber of buses will be
increased corresponding to the increase in the intake of students. There are sufficient buses
which take care of commutation of about two thousand students. The students are charged a
nominal fee for using the bus facility per annum.

PU) was started in this college as a voluntary

dure:



The placement procedures commence by sending placement invitation to the
companies enclosing a brief summary of the academic curriculum. A Job Response Form
(JRF) is also sent to the recruiters asking details about company, job description, salary,

tc.




In response, companies submit completely filled Job Response Form (JRF) to the T & P
office.




The Training & Placement Officer conducts an orientation program for the students
during which, placement procedures, placement policy, etc. are discussed a
nd all the
doubts, students may have, are addressed.




Then the placement office collects students' information in the Bio
-
data form.




The company has a choice of visiting the campus for a Pre
-
Placement Talk either before
the selection processes or along wi
th the final recruitment.




On receipt of confirmation and JRF, the placement office announces the requirements
of the company, thereby allowing interested students to indicate their willingness to
participate in particular companies' Campus Recruitment
Procedure and resumes of
these students are then submitted to the company.




The company shortlists the candidate from the application pool and then sends the
same to the Placement Office.




A mutually convenient date for the selection processes is finalized
.




The company is required to present the final list of students as soon as possible
(preferably on the same day), after completion of the selection process.




Feedback from the recruiters about students performance and quality is collected and is
passed on

the respective departments for further necessary action, if any.




The offer letters of the selected students are sent by the companies to the Placement
