-
Asia Joint Conference 2011
: Accelerating Bioinformatics through Scientific & Technological
Innovation

27 Nov
-

2 December 2011

Renaissance Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Background:

The
International Conference on Bioinformatics (InCoB)

is the official conference of the Asia
-
Pacific Bioinformatics Network
(APBioNet) and is held from the 30 November to 2 December 2011 in Renaissance Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
This year, the conference will be

co
-
hosted by the International Society on Computational Biology (ISCB). The

InCoB/ISCB
-
Asia Joint Conference 2011

conference
showcases the latest research and technologies in all areas of bioinformatics and is attended by practitioners from both biol
ogy a
nd
computing backgrounds in the Asia
-
Pacific region and operates on the objective of providing a platform for experts and budding
bioinformaticians to discuss and exchange ideas and thoughts on the development of bioinformatics in the Asia Pacific region.

Since its
inception in 2002, this conference has grown and has since received national level support from the Scientific Ministries and

related
organisations and industries.

InCoB/ISCB
-
Asia Joint Conference 2011
provides for an international forum that wil
l present conceptual and practical issues in cutting
-
edge Bioinformatics applications and findings from sequence and structure analysis, molecular evolution, healthcare, agricult
ure,
environment

and diseases to next generation sequencing technology platfo
rm and data analysis.
InCoB/ISCB
-
Asia Joint Conference
2011

intends to attract a balanced combination of biologists, computer scientists, bioinformaticians, biomedical engineers, physic
al
scientists and statisticians. The conference has two main components
; the pre
-
conference workshops to be hosted by Universities from
27
-
29 November and the Main Conference itself which is over three full days from the 30 November to 2 December 2011. The main
organisers of the event are M
OSTI
, M

Benefits to participants and Malaysian Bioinformatic
s

Community:

Over the past decade of InCoB,
the conference has attracted the participation of ~350
-

400 parti
cipants from within this region

and
beyond. This conference serves not just as a platform to showcase local and international research in the field of Bioinforma
tics, but it
also allows us in

Malaysia to “benchmark” our research with that of our international counterparts. This therefore would provide a
knowledge sharing and acquiring forum for researchers (including students) who may use this opportunity to obtain training th
rough the
worksho
ps carried out as well as the oral and poster presentations made within the course of the conference.

In addition to the training,
poster and oral presentations, the Conference also provides a means for researcher
s

to have their work published in reputable

and high
ranking

journals.

Request for Financial Assistance:

As the conference intends to provide a pl
atform for sharing and learning,

an essential towards achieving the above objective would be the
funds to bring in authorities in the field and to enab
le participation in the pre
-
conference workshops and Conference at a reasonable cost
to both local and international participants. As A
PBioNet

and the organising committee do not have any funds to sustain the event and
sponsorship of invited speakers and s
tudents, we would require the support of Ministries, Organisations and Industries to provide us with
the financial means to support the Conference.

Stated below are the means by which support may be rendered to the organising committee:

1.

Travel grants for
invited speakers (overseas) to the event and local hospitality

2.

Sponsorship of conference dinner

3.

Sponsorship of Pre
-
Conference Cocktail

4.

Sponsorship of conference bag, printing cost and miscellaneous expenses

5.

Contribution towards the sponsorship of Bionexus
status companies to the event

6.

Contribution towards the sponsorship of students to the Conference

Attached is a sponsorship form that illustrates the packages available. For items 5 &

6, quantum of support can either be calculated
based on number of individuals or companies to be sponsored
(i.e. based on registrations fees)
or as a one bulk payment to be disbursed
in accordance to the committee
’s

discretion. The organising committee is

also open to other forms of sponsorship then that outlined in the
form. Please feel free to approach the
Secretary of the
organising committee (
Assoc. Prof. Dr Kalaivani Nadarajah at 0123930647
) for
further clarification on the packages illustrated and an
y other suggestions and options you would like to provide
. Any form of support
given to u
s in making this event a success, is greatly appreciated.
