are implemented digitally

my
research

on area of
discrete

time
adaptive control and iterative learning control

during
the master study
.

In the context
of adaptive control, one of the principal di
ffi
culties lies in the
unknown control direction problem.

Without using the discrete Nussbaum gain, I
propose

a simple
method to avoid the singularity of the control law for discrete
-
time systems.
I also successfully
extend the backstepping approach to adaptive iterative learning control for discrete
-
time systems
both in the parametric
-
strict
-
feedback form and the parametric
-
output
-
feedback form.

In order to
apply the main stability analysis tool
,

t
he Key Technical Lemma,
the linear growth condition
is
usually imposed on

the
system
nonlinearity

for adaptive control of nonlinear discrete
-
time systems
.
Recently, I am writing a paper
on

how to remove this condition and still guarantee the global
stabili
ty of general nonlinear discrete
-
time systems.


Nothing great wa
s ever achieved

enthusiasm

My research achievements
owe a great deal
to my zeal for control systems.
I really
enjoy the process of research
.
To avoid the singularity of
the control law, I find
that

most systems in the adaptive control literature require the prior
knowledge of control direction.

Then
I
start to
read lots of relevant papers and attempt to
remove
this assumption
.
Several times I t
hought I
had
figured out
how to solve the difficulty,
the metho
d
was quickly rejected

when I found the non
-
causal problem of the control law. Although I felt upset
at those moments, I never give up. I like to challenge.
I often worked on this topic late into night.
Finally, my character of persistence pays off. I do design a new but simple control scheme which
successfully solves the problem of unknown control direction for discrete
-
time systems.


Right now I h
ave a
rough

study plan in my mind. My research topic is about adaptive repetitive
control
(ARC)

of p
eriodic time
-
varying systems.

The

research objectives are to examine in
periodic context all the problems that have been coped with in conventional adaptive control, an
d
to develop the
ARC

theory catering for the design of periodic time
-
varying systems.

I will attempt
to explore the ARC strategy and provide solutions to control problems related to PTV systems.
By
utilizing periodically

parameterization

to
characterize
the system uncertainty
, a series of ARC
schemes will be
proposed

for

PTV systems
. Non
-
parametric solutions to PTV systems will also be
investigated by extending the available adaptive mechanism
.

Meanwhile, I will build the
experimental platform
, if possibl
e,
to verify effectiveness of the proposed ARC schemes.

My
ultimate goal is to
expand

both
the theory and application scope of ARC, and exert myself to
provide precise control technique for practical plants with high speed and large uncertainties.
