UBANGI CLUSTER-MONO PROJECT UPDATE—
Location: DRC, Africa
Number of Speakers: 135,000
Year Project Began: 2005
Expected Completion Date: 2013

This course was very
encouraging and the
participants were told
that there are a thousand
ways of creatively using
Scripture in the people’s
heart language.

Fine-Tuning the Translation
The Mono team continues checking the translation of God’s
Word to make certain it’s accurate, clear and natural. Currently
they’re reviewing the book of Titus. During these checks the team
members discuss ways to make the translation better. Questions
they might ask each other are,
Are we using proper Mono grammar?
Will the people understand this term or is it too foreign? Did we miss a
phrase or sentence?
After they’ve thoroughly discussed each Scrip
-
ture passage, they make the necessary revisions.
Gaspard continues visiting the Mono language area to meet
with and hand over translated Scripture to local checking com
-
mittees, who further review the translation for naturalness and

comprehensibility.
Pray that the Lord will guide the Mono team as they seek to improve
the translation.
Pray that the local checking committees will offer helpful feedback

to the translators to make needed changes to the Mono Scriptures.
Drafting Luke and John
Baudouin and Marie continue drafting the Gospel of Luke and
Gaspard is still translating John’s Gospel. Renekuzu is keyboarding
these books into the computer as they’re being drafted.
Pray that God will give the translators insight to render unknown Jew
-
ish cultural concepts in such a way that Mono speakers will under
-
stand them.
A Thousand Ways to Use Scripture
The Mono team is implementing strategies they learned at the
Scripture-use workshop they attended. This course was very en
-
couraging and the participants were told that there are a thousand
ways of creatively using Scripture in the people’s heart language.
Pray that the Lord will give the team discernment to choose the best
Scripture-use activities for the Mono people from among the many
they heard about at the workshop.

UBANGI CLUSTER-MONO PROJECT UPDATE—
Thank the Lord for giving the Mono
team a passion to worship their Lord

in song.

Pray that the Mono team will be
strengthened by their interaction with
fellow translators in other languages.

Pray that many Mono people will be
drawn to the Savior as they hear God’s
Word for the first time in their mother
tongue.

Pray for the evangelization of Mono
speakers who follow non-Christian
religions.

Pray that the Mono team will be a
model of Christ to their families as

well as to their communities.

Ready to Praise
The team looks forward to having the Mono worship songbook
after it’s been printed. Team members are currently writing more
songs to be incorporated into this hymnal before it goes to press.
They along with the Mono believers eagerly anticipate using these
songs to praise God for His goodness amidst the many challenges
they encounter.
Pray that the Christian songbook will be published and in people’s
hands soon.
Fellowship across Language Boundaries
Mono team members have the privilege to interact with trans
-
lators from other language projects in the country at weekly meet
-
ings of the national Bible translation association.
Bible Studies Bring Change
A Mono pastor recently visited Gaspard in his office and told
him he’d noticed a marked increase in the number of Christians
in his parish. He came to realize that this was in part the fruit of
mother-tongue Bible studies that local pastors had conducted dur
-
ing training seminars for the Scripture revisers. Not only in this
parish but also in others scattered over the region, wherever Bible
studies had been conducted in the mother tongue there was simi
-
lar evidence of change. This pastor’s dearest wish is that all who are
involved in ministering to the Mono people will be present at the
next Scripture revisers’ seminar. The team is now making prepara
-
tions for this training by translating course materials and prepar
-
ing teaching tools.
Great Advantages in Serving God
Baudouin tells how being a Bible translator helps him in his
own spiritual growth. As he continues being trained and getting
hands-on experience in translation, he has noted an added benefit:
his family is growing spiritually as well.
