The “No Leak Warranty”

The VELUX “No Leak Warranty”

VELUX will warrant the product and residential
installation against water penetration for a period of 10 years. Such

a warranty on
installation is unheard of in the skylight industry.

1.

Requires VELUX installation instruction
s

are followed.

2.

VELUX now covers both product and labor to repair the product or installation.

3.

A Maximum of $1,000 reimbursement will be paid in an e
x
treme scenario
where VELUX can
not do the repair.

4.

Collateral damage is not covered since the consumer is responsible to let their
contractor then us know of the leak as soon they find it to prevent damage.

5.

Warranty only covers FS, VS and VSE plus EDL, EDW,

EDM, EKL, or EKW in
typical applications as described in the warranty. (i.e. not ECB, below pitch
applications, roof windows, skip sheathing applications, foam roof
applications, etc.)

Leak proof design

Patent
-
pending VELUX, protective “Deck Seal” prov
ides an air and water barrier for a
leak proof installation. The pre
-
attached perimeter flange with a durable, closed
-
cell
foam gasket (same as on VCM and VCE) seals tight to the roof decking. The addition
of the “Deck Seal” on the VELUX deck mounted produ
ct performs the following
functions:

1.

Closes gaps that use to occur due to brackets that raised the skylight

2.

The patent pending 1 1/4
-
inch flange or bracket (i.e. Deck Seal) sits directly
on the roof deck, providing an air and water barrier around the skyli
ght
opening.

3.

Deck Seal gasket seals to the roof deck preventing unwanted air or water
intrusion.

(right width for combi)

4.

The pre
-
installed Deck Seal simplifies the installation since no additional
brackets are needed. This simplification eliminates the po
ssibility of creative
on
-
sight installation variations.

5.

Tightens corners (i.e. no chance for pin holes).

6.

Smaller rough opening that tightens and creates a “warmer” design.

7.

Ring shank nails continue to be used for quick and simple attachment.

Advanced si
licone glazing sealant around glass and frame connection creates a
permanent seal.

1.

Advanced silicone technology replaces butyl as skylight glazing sealant.

2.

Material is impervious to water and air and will last the life of the skylight.

3.

Sealant is applied q
uickly, uniformly and reliably by robotic arms to ensure
quality and long
-
term durability.

A large VELUX engineered flashing program is integrated with the skylight to provide
a primary water seal, similar to what is currently available (shingle (EDL), s
hake
(ZZZ 165), tile (EDW), metal (EDM), flat roof curb bi
-
pack (ECB) and combi
-
flashing
kits (EKL and EKW)).

1.

Engineered flashing has 60+ yrs of proven water shedding performance.

2.

“Hook” saddle flashing along with step and sill flashing pieces are designed

to
integrate with the skylight and roofing material providing proven counter
-
flashing protection.

3.

Current EDL step pieces are at a 90 degree angle. A21 step pieces are at a 95
degree angle = no need to flex step pieces during installation

4.

Sill flashing: C
urrent EDL sill extends down from bottom frame 4
-
inches. A21
sill extends down from bottom frame 5
-
inches = better performance.

5.

Saddle flashing: Current saddle flashing extends downward around the top
corners 4
-
inches. A21 saddle flashing extends downward
around top corners
6
-
inches = better performance.

Adhesive skylight underlayment integration, along with the Deck Seal and
engineered flashing, provides for three (3) layers of water protection.

1.

Primary water protection: VELUX flashing.

2.

Secondary water
protection: VELUX adhesive underlayment provided for
wrapping the skylight and integrating with other roof underlayment.

3.

A new third layer of protection: VELUX Deck Seal securing the skylight frame
to roof deck connection.

Simplified installation

Factor
y installed Deck Seal eliminates the need to form, bend or install brackets.

1.

The Deck Seal is built onto the window providing for a strong bracket system
to meet uplift wind load requirements. The strong Deck Seal is a coated steel
bracket, welded in the c
orners and post
-
coated that will meet or exceed
current product ratings.

2.

Pre
-
drilled holes are designed to work with ring
-
shank nails for fast, strong
and simple installation.

Positioning or alignment notches built into the Deck Seal provide a simplifie
d
alignment method that can be performed on the roof.

1.

Built in notches on the Deck Seal allow the installer to align with roof opening
chalk lines in seconds and helps eliminate trips up and down the ladder.

Factory pre
-
finished white frames and sashes
provide for a high quality finish that
eliminates the need for secondary high cost trips by a painter.

1.

VELUX skylight frames are painted during manufacturing for a high quality
long lasting finish. (Process and water based, white lacquer with a
manufacture
rs 10 year warranty).

2.

Factory finishing helps protect gaskets from errant brushed on paint while
high up on a ladder that damages gaskets.

3.

Integrated paint on the frame and sash reduces finishing time and cost, so
painting of venting frames and sashes is
now a difficult chore of the past.

4.

Includes white, pre
-
mounted Pick&Click!™ system brackets so blinds can be
installed during initial skylight installation instead of a second trip after frame
or sash is painted.

5.

Special order stain grade, unfinished skyli
ghts are available with a 6 week
lead time (
estimated
20 production days

plus shiptime
).

No cladding screws and only one piece to remove during installation for less time and
greater simplicity while installing the skylight on the roof.

1.

Simple attachment

via a “slot notch” in saddle flashing for fold
-
over tab to
lock down flashing to skylight.

Pre
-
mounted Pick&Click!
™ system brackets make the installation of sunscreen blinds
literally a snap by eliminating the step of mounting the top blind brackets. Side rails
still need to be attached by the installer. This process can now be done prior to
mounting the skylights due

to the prefinished frame and sash.

1.

Blind product range now described as venetian blinds, blackout blinds (i.e.
previously called lightblock shade), roller blinds (i.e. translucent single roll,
flat fabric in a beige color) and solar blinds.

More modula
r design allows for custom sizes on deck mounted products (year two
feature)

1.

Easier replacement of odd size skylights on existing roofs.

2.

Factory installed operators for manual venting and electric venting skylights,
reduce the need for field
-
installed oper
ators and multiple wire connections.

3.

On the electric venting skylights 20
-
feet of 14 gauge wire is provided to run
to a standard junction box and the unit is controlled by a radio frequency (RF)
remote to eliminate tedious key pad wiring.

4.

Externally mounte
d rain
-
sensor adhered to flashing or secured to bottom
frame by the installer.

5.

Self programming RF remote with advanced programming options.

6.

RF wall mounted switches

are also available
.

2.

U
-
values improve minimally on deck mounted skylights and QPF (avg. 12
-
15% on curb mounted skylights).

3.

Three levels of protection (flashing, adhesive underlayment

and
,

Deck Seal)
reduce the potential for condensation.

Unique condensation gutters and gaskets are incorporated into the skylight to catch
and channel condensation out of the home.

Greater protection from extreme weather conditions.
