NANOINJECTORS



nanoinjector
based on a single carbon
nanotube
that is
only 25 nm in diameter.



This can
be inserted into a single
cell.



The
material is held in place by a
chemical linkage
that
is sensitive to the cell interior.



Once
the tube is inside the cell, the linkage is broken
and the
material is released.



This
technique will be of great use to cell biologists,
allowing them
to overcome
many of the limitations of
existing microinjection techniques.

SURGERY


At Rice University, a flesh welder is used to
fuse two pieces of chicken meat into a
single piece.



The two pieces of chicken are placed
together touching.

seam, causing the two sides to weld
together.
