What are ICFs?

ICFs (Insulated or Insulating
Concrete Forms) consist of two
panels of foam

Both layers of insulation are held
together with cross ties or “webs”
integrally mold into the foam to
create a block or “form unit”.

Insulation: Usually expanded (EPS)
or extruded (XPS) polystyrene

Cross Ties or Webs: Usually
recycled plastic (HDPP), nylon or
metal

ICF Construction Process Overview

11

Standard footings are installed according to applicable
building codes and engineering requirements.

Strip footings are easily accommodated with the flexibility of
ICF construction.

13

Reinforcing steel is placed according
to the design requirements into
notches provided by the webbing.

3)
Reinforcing steel added…

Window “Bucks” or frames are placed in the wall.

“Bucks” can be created using several different material options.

4)

Concrete is poured into the hollow cavity of the wall to create
a solid concrete wall.

1.
Half the time to construct.

2.
60 years life span of concrete buildings
internationally.

3.
High insulation value of R
-

4.
High S.T.C value of up
-
to 51.

5.
Seismic resistant construction.

6.
Cracks free internal & external surfaces.

7.
Economical basement provision.

8.
Early Return of property investments.

9.
A/C tonnage savings up to 60%.

10.
Bullet proof structure.

ICF’s Targeted Benefits

37

11.
40% less building dead load.

12.
Extension friendly structure.

13.
Upto 4 hours of fire resistive rating.

14.
Better indoor air quality.

15.
LEED certified building system.

16.

15% economical construction compare to
conventional system.

17.
Alteration friendly construction.

18.
Various roof options.

19.
Enables increase of daylight in building.

Gulf to invest $50b in power projects

By Himendra Mohan Kumar,

Staff Reporter

August 18, 2009

The

Gulf

Cooperation

Council

(GCC)

countries

are

likely

to

invest

as

much

as

$
50

billion

(Dh
184

billion)

in

power

projects

between

2009

and

2015
,

according

to

the

Economist

Intelligence

Unit

(EIU)
.

The

GCC

has

an

installed

power

capacity

of

75
,
000

megawatts,

but

with

demand

growing

annually

at

a

rate

of

9
.
5

per

cent,

more

than

55
,
000

MW

of

additional

power

will

be

required

by

2015
.

For

the

UAE,

a

recent

analysis

showed

that

the

national

annual

peak

demand

for

electricity

is

likely

to

be

40
,
858

megawatts

by

2020
,

up

162
.
82

per

cent

from

present,

based

on

an

annual

growth

rate

of

about

9

per

cent

from

2007

onwards
