IBM Cognos Controller Version 10.1.1:New Features
Chapter 1.New features in IBM Cognos Controller version
10.1.1
This section describes the new features of IBM Cognos Controller.
Copy Journals – Keep creator
When you copy a journal in IBM Cognos Controller 10.1.1,then the user that
originally created the journal in data entry is kept as the creator and is not
replaced by the user that did the copy.
The date when the journal was originally created will be kept and will not be
replaced by the date when the copy occurred. In previous versions the user that
copied the journal was stored as the creator.
Improved company status handling with company journals
In IBM Cognos Controller 10.1.1 the status handling of companies has been
improved.
In previous versions of IBM Cognos Controller the status of companies was
changed from Ready to Processing when a company journal was entered even if
this journal does not belong to the Closing Version that you defined in the
General Configuration window.Reporters who submitted their figures and set the
company status to Ready had to contact the administrator to unlock and change
the status back to Ready.
As of Controller 10.1.1,changes to company journals that do not belong to the
defined Closing Version in the General Configuration window will not affect the
status of a company.Ready marked companies remain Ready.
If you are a group controller, you can enter company journals without changing
the status.Note that the status of the group will change to Processing to indicate
that there is a change if this journal does not belong to the Closing Version that
you defined in the General Configuration window.
Imported company journals that do not belong to the Closing Version that you
defined in the General Configuration window will still change the Company
Status to processing.
Improved delete period values
In IBM Cognos Controller 10.1.1,the deletion of data has been improved.
In previous versions of IBM Cognos Controller, the deletion of data was limited to
actuality,period,company,and form.
As of IBM Cognos Controller 10.1.1,you can delete values by Closing Version or
multiple journal types and by Contribution Version or multiple automatic journal
types.

Concurrent updates of structures
IBM Cognos Controller 10.1.1 no longer has any restrictions on what windows can
be open simultaneously.
The following sections describe some behavior regarding structural changes and
updates.
Structural changes made by the same user in the same session
Between the following menus, structural changes made by the same user
immediately propagate to other open windows in the list, without having to save.
v Maintain > Configuration > Automatic Journals > Control tables > Allocations
v Maintain > Business Rules
v Maintain > Submission > Tasks Define
v Maintain > Subset Define
v Maintain > Jobs > Define
v Maintain > User > User Roles
Because the changes are immediate, editing is restricted to only allow one editing
session at any time.If you start a second editor,a dialog is shown prompting you
to save or cancel the pending changes.
Structural changes made by other users or by the same user in
other windows than the ones listed above
If structural changes are made by other users or in other windows that are not
listed above, and there is a dependency between the windows,a button to load the
most recent structures will be activated in the above windows. When you click the
load button, the most recent structures are loaded.
For example,if the name of a company in the Maintain > Company Structure
Define window has been changed, then the load button in the windows with
dependencies with the company structure will be active.By clicking the load
button, all windows with dependencies will be updated, even if they are not
visible.
If you have unsaved changes and click the load button,Controller prompts you to
cancel the update,to discard changes,or to reapply the changes after loading the
structures. If you do not have pending changes in the above windows, then all
structures are updated. You cannot save changes before reloading.
If the changes are made in the same window,a notification will also be shown in
the window title to alert you that there may be conflicting changes since the
structure has been updated.
There are also other windows, for example the Company > Reports >
Intercompany > Report window,the Group > Reports > Intercompany > Report
window, and the Maintain > System Audit Log > Browse window in which you
will be able to load the most recent structures.

IBM Cognos Controller Version 10.1.1:New Features
Company Command Center and Group Command Center
The Refresh Content button in the Command Center status window is always
active.To update,for example the Company Status,Form Status,and Lock Status
information,click Refresh Content.
Improved status functionality
In IBM Cognos Controller 10.1.1 the status functionality has been improved by
introducing two new command centers.
The Company Command Center, for reporting users submitting data for one or a
few companies and the Group Command Center, for group users who need to
monitor and manage progress for a group of companies.
The Company Command Center allows you to:
v Easily access different functions that are used during the closing process.
v Get a better overview of the reporting process and the included tasks (forms).
v Perform actions to update status, like data entry and reconciliation.
v Easily change status for multiple tasks (forms) or companies.
The Group Command Center allows you to:
v Use the improved status monitoring and filtering capabilities.
v Perform actions to update status, like data entry and reconciliation.
v Assign tasks (forms) to specific users per company. This is done from Tasks -
Define window. In the Command Center you can see assigned users and send
notifications to them.
v Send notifications to assigned users via e-mail.
The Command Centers allow you to filter on tasks for specific users and
companies.

IBM Cognos Controller Version 10.1.1:New Features
Chapter 2.New features in IBM Cognos Controller Financial
Analytics Publisher version 10.1.1
This section describes the new features in IBM Cognos Controller Financial
Analytics Publisher (FAP).
New log files
From this release, the log files include history. Two new log files replace the old
log files. This will help you to troubleshoot IBM Cognos Controller Financial
Analytics Publisher.
In previous versions of FAP there were two log files:"FAPFatalError.log"and
"Retry.log".These log files were overwritten, and not appended. The result was
that the history was removed.
There is a new log file:"error.log".This log file includes history. The file"error.log"
is created and appended in the FAP service base directory when errors occur.
Ability to choose the ports for Microsoft SQL and IBM DB2 servers
You can choose the ports for Microsoft SQL servers and IBM DB2
®
servers.
In previous versions of FAP you only could use standard ports for Microsoft SQL
and IBM DB2 servers.
Enhanced naming convention for dimensions
You can add a suffix,a prefix,or both to a FAP dimension.
By changing the names of the dimensions you are able to avoid possible conflicts if
an IBM Cognos Express
®
installation with other dimensions is available in the
same IBM Cognos TM1
®
instance.

IBM Cognos Controller Version 10.1.1:New Features
Chapter 3.Improvements for installing and configuring IBM
Cognos Controller version 10.1.1
This section describes the new installation and configuration features for IBM
Cognos Controller.
Enhanced installation process
IBM Cognos Controller version 10.1.1 has an enhanced installation process.
The following improvements to the installation process have been made:
v The installation of IBMCognos Controller Financial Analytics Publisher (FAP)
is split into two parts.
The installation of FAP has been split into two parts in the installation kit:
Controller FAP Client and Controller FAP Server. This will simplify the
installation of the FAP server and FAP client on different machines.
v The FAP service is now registered automatically during the installation.
The FAP service will be registered automatically with the installation of the
Controller FAP Server. The FAP service will by default be registered under the
"Local System"account. You can change the account for the FAP service.
v Updater kits will check for running services.
When installing interim fixes or fix packs, then the updater kit will look for any
running Cognos and Controller services and prompt you to stop them (the
service names will be listed). The updater kit will try to stop the services itself
but not all services can be stopped this way.You must manually stop the
unstopped services before the update can continue.
v JRE is included and by default referenced with all components that require it.
In previous releases the Java Runtime Engine (JRE) had to be manually installed
and referenced through an environment variable for Controller to be able to
locate it.In Controller version 10.1.1 the JRE is installed with the installation
components that need it (Controller FAP Server and Controller Web Services
Server). The JRE is the same as is installed with the Controller BI Components
and is placed in the same location. As Controller now knows where to find the
JRE,there is no longer the need to define a"JAVA_HOME"or a
"CCR_JAVA_HOME"environment variable by default. This will only be required
if you want to leverage another JRE located in another location.
v Updater kits will not overwrite prior settings.
For 10.1.0 interim fixes (provided as updater kits) of Controller certain
configuration settings were overwritten when applying the update. As of version
10.1.1 updater kits will not overwrite existing settings. To make it possible to
revert an installation to default settings or to allow you to leverage changes
provided in the interim fixes,a set of default configuration files is provided.
These will be stored with a".new"extension in the same location as the
configuration file in use.By renaming the files you can then change what
configuration file is used.
v Reduced third party dependencies
Microsoft Windows 2003 support tools are no longer required for the installation
of Controller.
v A virtual folder"ccrvdir"is automatically created.
© Copyright IBM Corp.2004,2012
7
The Controller virtual directory in Microsoft IIS needs to point to an empty
folder in the file structure. In previous releases you were asked to manually
create a"ControllerVdir"folder which could be referenced when creating the
Controller virtual directory.In Controller 10.1.1 a folder called"ccrvdir"is
created during the installation which can be used in the same way.
v The file"CCRLocalClient.msi"contains an unpacked"\integration"folder
called.
In Controller 10.1 and earlier releases the file"ccrlocalclient.msi"contained a file
"integration.zip"which was unpacked to the users profile at the launch of
"ccr.exe".As the size of the unpacked folder is over 100 MB this can cause
unwanted size requirements for installations in Citrix environments.
In order to reduce the amount of disk utilization the integration folder in
Controller 10.1.1 is unpacked directly in the file"ccrlocalclient.msi".This results
in just one unpacked instance of this folder for the whole Citrix deployment.
When you use roaming profiles this will also reduce the load time when you
access the profile. For other than Citrix installations there will be no change
except the location of the integration directory itself.
Configuration improvements
IBM Cognos Controller version 10.1.1 has configuration improvements.
The following improvements to the configuration have been made:
v The Controller Configuration tool is now marked for proper UAC handling.
Controller Configuration has to be run under administrative privileges in order
to correctly store all changes done to the configuration. In earlier releases this
was not obvious and as a result the application could be run without proper
privileges. As a result of this certain configuration settings would not be stored
resulting in a system that would not work.In version 10.1.1 a manifest is created
for Controller Configuration so that Windows User Account Control (UAC)
prompts the user that rights must be elevated for the application. And if
required prompt the user to provide proper credentials (unless already logged in
with administrative privileges).
v The CCRLocalClient.MSI package is now marked for proper UAC handling
The CCRLocalClient.MSI package has to be run under administrative privileges
in order to correctly install the local client. In earlier releases this was not
obvious and as a result the application could be run without proper privileges.
As a result of this the local client would not be installed properly. In version
10.1.1 a manifest is created for the CCRLocalClient.MSI package so that
Windows User Account Control (UAC) prompts the user that rights must be
elevated for the application. And if required prompt the user to provide proper
credentials (unless already logged in with administrative privileges).
v Controller has enhanced error messaging.
In order to assist the configuration process,Controller presents additional error
information in the error dialogs.By clicking Details you will get access to
detailed information that can also be copied and sent to customer support. The
level of detail in the error messages can be controlled by editing the
"ControllerWebServiceException"property in the"web.config"file in the
"ControllerProxyServer"folder.
<p><!-- Return error to client,Levels:0=None,1=Normal,2=All
--&gt;</p><p>
<add key="ControllerWebServiceException"value="1"/&gt;</p>
8
IBM Cognos Controller Version 10.1.1:New Features
Some system administrators may be concerned with the level of details
presented to the end users about the errors.By setting the
"ControllerWebServiceException"property to"0",only a recommendation to
contact the system administrator is presented in addition to the already existing
error message.By default the property is set to"1".
v Controller Configuration has enhanced error messaging.
In order to assist the configuration process additional error information is
provided in the error dialogs presented by the Controller Configuration utility.
By clicking Details you will get access to detailed information that can also be
copied and sent to customer support.
