U.3(A) Dated: 21/10/2008. MRIU, now carries forward the same
heritage, mantle of

excellence and professionalism with the philosophy of Manav Rachna
“Vidyantariksha”.

This is a conjugation of the words ‘vidya’ and ‘antariksha’. ‘Vidya’ means knowledge,
information, the basis of creativity and innovation. It is the foundation of technol
ogy and
envisages the future. ‘Antariksha’ means ‘the sky’ the space which we belong to or exist. It can
be broken into ‘antar’ and ‘Ikshan’ which means inner vision. Hence the combination, the core
promise of Manav Rachna becomes the reality of “Inner vis
ion or root of all knowledge”.

Chancellor’s Message

In Search of Knowledge Excellence

We are the world, we are the youth, we

are the present and the future: we are part of the
Manav Rachna family, which owes its existence to the different branches of the Manav Rachna
International University. ‘Vidyantariksha’ is attached to our name where ‘vidya’ is knowledge
and ‘antariksha’ i
s the sky the innermost desire to learn and grow beyond boundaries. It is a
growth that can only create better human beings and contribute not only to the betterment of
the society we live in but also to the country we are so proud of. Welcome to the Manav

Rachna family! Welcome to the dream of our Chairman Dr O.P. Bhalla where values take shape
in the form of worship. This is a temple of a different kind where small strides through
education of knowledge and values take us to greater heights. That is the d
ream which the Sr.
Vice President of MRIU Mr Prashant Bhalla and Vice President Dr Amit Bhalla wish to take
forward. Their young creative minds desire that the banner of knowledge be carried across the
globe to prove that we are the world.

It was a small s
tep taken 14 years ago. The two alphabets MR have become the talk of the city
of Faridabad which was once recognized only as an ‘industrial hub’. Just a little over a decade
down the line and we are now the Manav Rachna International University. The Univer
sity has
not only spread its wings and attracted students from across the country but has been
responsible in a big way to give Faridabad the prestigious banner of being an ‘educational hub’.
Leaps and bounds is not what we talk of, we have our horizons wh
ich are literally speaking
unlimited. Our name has spread globally and today MRIU has attracted the attention of
international universities which have tied up with us.

MRIU dares to think differently and by “attaining the Deemed University status we have t
he
freedom to create our new curriculum for different subjects. The inputs to the curricula have
come not only from educationists but also experienced personnel from the Corporate world so
that we can bridge the gap which has existed over the years,” says
the Vice Chancellor, Dr
N.C.Wadhwa. “We want to be modern in our thinking but at the same time maintain our values
so that our students remain attached to their roots where culture and tradition form an integral
part,” he emphasizes. And it is this desire
to think differently that has led the University realize
the handicaps that students often face when they enter the job market. “It is an impetus for
our students to intern with companies for 24 weeks before they leave the campus and carry the
burden of th
e work load,” says the Vice Chancellor who has abundant experience in education

field not only as VC of MD University but also as Director Secondary Education Government of
Haryana. With proper practical knowledge and hands
-
on
-
experience, personality groom
ing has
resulted in students being placed in top companies all over the country. When quality second to
none seems to be the motto of the MR family, the faculty members who form an integral part
of the family, have to keep abreast and up
-
date themselves wi
th knowledge where learning
never ends.

Learning in its own way can be full of ‘adventure’ as Dr B.S.Gill from the faculty of Engineering
and Technology believes. “The IQ of students have to be commended. They are a lot which is
not satisfied without makin
g queries, without asking questions and it is upto us teachers to
‘tickle’ their creative instincts leading to new innovations,” says the Engineer who has been
attached to the Central Mechanical Engineering Institute and proudly shows off the creations of
his students like the Batmobile inspired buggy designed by the students of CITM. The project
which won awards hands down only showcased the creativity of the students. “God must have
been an engineer,” says the researcher with a smile and believes that aut
omation is the
keyword in the engineering sector.

Faculty at MRIU believes that a vision is a dream which can be achieved, and nursing a vision is
great but thoughts must be put into action. In this context MRIU attaches a lot of importance to
basic scienc
es and feels the even the smallest of cells holds a lot of importance and nano
technology is the science of today and tomorrow. Similarly renewable energy technologies like
Solar photo Voltaic cells are the emerging fields of tomorrow In this context Manav

Rachna
hosted an International Conference and Exhibition on Nanotechnology and Solar Photovoltaics
on 16th and 17th April, 2010.

When it comes to research and investment in laboratories, the MRIU believes only in the state
-
of
-
the art laboratories. It is t
he facility of good labs in subjects like bio
-
technology which has
attracted students to the Campus. “Students spend 50 percent of their time in acquiring
practical knowledge,” says Dr Sarita Sachdeva, Professor and Head, Biotechnology Engineering,
FET and

it is the urge to grow in their respective fields that a majority of students take to
research after their basic degrees. Summer training during the course is compulsory and the
final year project is a dream which every student creates for himself. Bio
-
re
mediation is a
project which has allowed students to think, put into practice what they have learnt and in
return contribute to the development of society. Finding out plants which have the capacity to
clean contaminated soil and water is not only a exciti
ng learning process but gives a feel of
having given back to society in our small way. The research departments at MRIU are looking at
developing animal cell culture laboratories in the coming few months. Research for a
developing nation would only mean ad
ding to wealth in the form of knowledge and
contribution to society.

Knowledge is one aspect of ‘wealth’ and the other important aspect of ‘wealth’ which MRIU
emphasizes very strongly on is the good health. Health and fitness go hand in hand, and the
focus

of the management on the importance on the sports is visible in the huge infrastructure
which has been created for those whom sports is a passion. With Mr Sarkar Talwar as the head

of sports department, the management has gone all out to create facilities

which are probably
one of the best in north India and it will not be an exaggeration to say that the MRIU campus
boasts of sports facilities compared to the best in the country. The MR family takes great pride
in having the only Shooting Range of its kind

in any University in the country. Training facilities
to sports icons like Mr Gagan Narang, the ‘Golden Man of India’, Ms Anisha Khan and Ms
Shweta Chaudhary testify to our efforts at encouraging sports persons capable of bringing
laurels to the country.
Squash facilities, flood lit basket ball and cricket grounds and a state
-
of
-
the
-
art gym, and an Academy of Performing Arts are only a few steps to encourage students
during college hours and for those who are away from their homes and yet at home while the
y
live in the hostels.

Creating sports facilities is just one aspect of good health. MRIU takes it one step forward and
the Faculty of Applied sciences headed by Prof G.L.Khanna offers courses not only in nutrition
and physiotherapy but sports sciences as
well. With top
-

-

experience Prof Khanna and Ms Gurjeet Kaur take great pride in saying, “often it is noticed
that what our students learn at the graduation level goes a long way in their profession”. Their
claims ar
e supported by the fact that students often find placements while they are interning.
“We are leaving no stone unturned for our students to be able to compete at the international
level.”

The Commonwealth Games Organization committee holds a Pre Commonweal
th Games Sports
Science Congress/ Conference one week before the start of the games in a reputed University.
In the year 2006, Commonwealth Games were held at Melbourne, Australia and 13th Pre
-
Commonwealth Games Sports Science Conference was held at Austra
lian Catholic University at
Melbourne, Australia. In the year 2010, Commonwealth Games were held at New Delhi and
Manav Rachna International University had the unique privilege to organize the Pre
-
Commonwealth Sports Science Congress at its campus in Farid
abad. The University organized
the 14th Pre
-
Commonwealth Sport Science Congress with the approval of Organizing
Committee Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi and in collaboration with National Association of
Physical Education and Sports Science , Indian Associa
tion of Sports Medicine and Asian
Federation of Sports Medicine from 27th September to 30th September, 2010. Prior to the
Congress, high end training programme were also conducted from 24th September to 27th
September, 2010 with many resource persons and p
articipants from various foreign countries.
Total 600 delegates attended the Congress out of which approximately 100 delegates were
from 23 different countries. Out of the 105 invited speakers, 30 were from various foreign
countries. 252 Abstracts of the r
esearch papers presented in the Congress were published in
British Journal of Sports Medicine in a special edition besides 150 Abstracts of other research
papers published in the Souvenir published by the University.

While speaking of training students at
the international level the fundamental requirement
means focusing on quality education. Dr A.K. Kapoor who heads the Dental College follows only
one dream: hands on knowledge coupled with quality training will only produce good dentists.
Dentistry has alw
ays been a neglected branch of medicine but, he adds, “Nature does not help
the lost tooth to grow again. In this case we have to help ourselves to keep fit.” Good teeth are

the basic to good health and we shouldn’t forget that the facial functioning is mo
re complex
because it is impossible to immobilize the mouth. But dedication in students is what Dr Kapoor
emphasizes the most. Here counseling plays a very important part.

The Manav Rachna students showcased their educational training by carrying the MR Fl
ag
Internationally. They have qualified for the Imagine Cup 2010 (Poland) and BMW (Summer
Training). One of MR student is amongst the finalists of embedded SPARK 2010 Challenge for
his invention

WIZBUDDY, which is a portable device which can be taken any

where from the
home and installed in Car / Bus / Aircraft while traveling. On the environmental front MR can
boast of even having International Climate Champions on its rolls.

Counseling is one of the key words which every department, every faculty member

keeps on
top priority when interacting with students. It is this aspect which has allowed experienced
persons like Col (R) K.S.Gujral, Director International Education Centre which guides students
and keeps them abreast of the courses which MRIU has tied
up with other Universities and
given us the pride of having an international tag. The major objectives of IEC is to identify
Universities with whom MRIU has agreements with. Our tie
-
ups speak for themselves and Brig
(R) S N Setia, Dean, Faculty of Internat
ional Programmes and Director Admissions, has been
able to implement the tie
-
ups with Algonquin College, (Canada), UCLan (UK) and AIS, St Helens
(New Zealand).

The students exchange programmes with LAHTI University, Finland, offers MBA course which
gives t
he flexibility to students to complete a part of the project work in Finland. Physiotherapy
students also have the option for exchange programme with LAHTI and Leeds Metropolitan
University, UK. But MRIU is not going to remain content till they see their b
anner fly across the
world. Col K S Gujral is communicating with Canada and USA and looking at tie
-
ups in the
technical and management disciplines. These tie
-
ups will give new heights to our international
alliances. Already we have over 30 foreign students

on our rolls from countries like Nigeria,
Syria, Iran, Afghanistan, South Korea and Zimbawve.

It is because of our past achievements the Government has chosen Manav Rachna along with
leading players like Thapars, Jindals and Birlas to be the key players a
t the Rajiv Gandhi
Education City at Sonepat which will start functioning from 2012 session. “It will then be
survival of the fittest,” says Prof Victor Gambhir, the pro
-
vice
-
chancellor of MRIU. “We will have
to offer quality at a price which is competitiv
e and the MR family is confident that we will be
able to make a mark and achieve our goal towards excellence because we do not compromise
on quality.” The proposed Manav Rachna University at Kundli will offer Engineering and
Management programmes which wil
l follow global curricula mapped with international
universities that attach a lot of importance to industry inputs.

Whether qualifications are acquired at the national or inter
-
national level, the ultimate aim is to
secure a good placement. A Corporate Re
source Centre (CRC) has been set up to enhance the
opportunities for students of all streams, besides assisting in seeking summer training and
internships. MRIU strongly believes in establishing meaningful collaboration with multinational

without the faculty members who are not only picked up for their qu
alifications but also for
their vast experience which allows them to communicate their knowledge to their students.
Equipped with the best laboratories and infrastructure the work of the faculty members
although an uphill task, is made interesting and enjo
yable. And to add to it, meritorious
students are even awarded scholarships and some needy students are provided financial
assistance.

Academics and over
-
all development through communication skills allow our students to think
big and dream big. These drea
ms are more than often fulfilled and gives opportunity to the
University to concentrate on community services. Besides holding conferences on subjects
ranging from nano technology to environment to stem cell seminars, blood donation camps and
health check
up camps are a part and parcel of the extra curricular activities.

MRIU is implementing a campus wide ERP system with a view to ensure that information about
the campus can be accessed by one and all viz. Students, Parents, Faculty, Staff and the
Managemen
t. This is an integrated solution to streamline various operations in the university. It
shall also enable the students to access the ‘learning and support resources’.

Enterprise Social Responsibility has been a part and parcel of activities at Manav Rachn
a.
Besides holding regular blood donation and Dental Check up camps, there are regular seminars
and

rallies held on social issues.
Whether it is a drive for ‘saying no to crackers’ or the drive to
ensure safe driving rules through the efforts of the Magdar
shan team or a rally to spread the
message of the need to abolish child labour across the city of Faridabad; such social
responsibility efforts are our top priority. Similarly, SWAPAN is a small effort to educate the
slum dwellers working around the Univer
sity Campus, guiding their children in their school
lessons and getting them admitted to high school is a way to show them light in a dark tunnel.
Radio Manav Rachna is yet another effort towards social responsibility wherein issues related
to women, healt
h, safety, youth, education and other issues relevant to the society are
regularly broadcast.

The Management at the MRIU has one single ideology: creating better human beings can only
happen if it begins early and at an age when the child is a toddler. Fiv
e schools under the
banner of MRIS have begun to instill a value system into the young ones at a very tender age.

Whether it is the Saraswati Vandana or the Gayatri Mantra, our children learn it young and
learn it strong. A 1:20 teacher student ratio at th
e schools is not only comfortable but also
focuses on bringing out the hidden talent in each child. Whether it is horse riding, golf, karate,

they begin young and learn to give equal importance to class room
study and outdoor acti
vities. They are aware not only of the world around them but the world
which is far away and yet so near because of communications. Festivals whether it is Diwali,
Holi or Halloween

just everything is celebrated within the campus.

But what really is requ
ired to reach that goal of excellence? What makes MRIU different from
the rest? If we can sum up in the words of one of our senior faculty members, Col (R) V K. Gaur,
Executive Director “We believe in developing scientific and spiritual minds. We have no t
ime
frame for this.

Ours is a timeless project which is a triangular effort which involves the institution, the parents
and the student,” he says with a lot of emphasis. “There can be only two paths,” he goes on to
say, “The path of values or valuables. An
d at MR there is no place for the path of valuables.”
“We believe in inter
-
dependence and to which every member of the family holds prime
importance and where every member is expected to contribute. In this process, mentoring by
experienced members goes a
long way in shaping the young minds”.
