NORTHERN NEVADA SUPERMODIFIEDS


CLASS DESCRIPTION:

This is a low cost open wheel winged class that uses readily available production
components in construction. This class is designed to be a step between hobby stocks and
pro stocks. It will be a crowd
pleaser and provide the drivers with competitive door to door
racing while giving the drivers the option to customize their car (to a small extent) if
desired.


ENGINE & DRIVE TRAIN:


A. Engine maximum displacement is 368 cubic inches.

B. Flat top pistons
only

C. Single Flat tappet or hydraulic cam only. Roller rockers allowed no roller cams or lifters
D. Must be naturally aspirated. One (1) carburetor. 650 CFM. One spacer/adapter of one (1)
inch maximum is allowed.

E. Single/dual plane manifolds OK

F. No
purpose built race engines.

G. No mid/rear engine vehicles.

H. No front/all wheel drive vehicles

I. No electronic traction control devices allowed.

J. Engine heads and block shall be cast iron with OEM casting numbers. V

6 motors can run
aluminum OEM head

6 blocks must be cast iron.

K. Heads will be as delivered from factory with no modifications. No porting, profiling or
polishing.

L. Number one (1) spark plug shall be no more than sixteen (16) inches behind spindle
centerline. (V

6 engines will be measured from the rear of block
to spindle centerline.

M. Engine offset must be kept within two (2) inches of original frame.

N. Cooling system may be modified. Any overflow tubes must be directed to the ground,
between frame rails
. Radiators will be mounted in front of engine.

O. Transmission must have one forward gear, a reverse gear, and a neutral position. Only
OEM production transmissions will be allowed. Manual transmissions must have a working
single disc
-
type clutch with an
all steel flywheel. Automatic transmissions must remain in
OEM stock automatic case with a functional torque converter. Original bell housing must
remain unless replaced with a sfi approved scatter shield.

P. No "in and out" boxes or quick change devices a
llowed.

Q. Must have an approved scatter shield or blanket. Scatter shield shall be constructed of
not less than quarter inch by three inch steel, 270 degrees around flex plate/flywheel. Steel
bell housing is allowed.

llowed,must be factory built from production vehicle,no
quick change rear ends.semi

floating rear ends only. Lockers are allowed.

S. Drive shaft must be solid, one piece, and painted white. A 360 degree drive shaft hoop
required.


BODY, FRAME, & BUMPERS


A
. Body must resemble a production vehicle. Vehicle must be identifiable by tech. All
vehicles must have a body by start of 2009 race season. No grandfathering.

B. Body must retain from body donor, the base of windshield pillar to window post and
entire re
ar quarter panel with roof. bodies maybe fiberglass replicas if desired. Doors can be
made of sheet metal. Doors must conform to rear quarter panel.

C. Entire body must be inside of all four wheels.

D. Body shall be enclosed at the rear and resemble produ
ction vehicle. Plastic tail light lens
and trim are allowed. Plastic vehicle names or manufactures are allow on rear only.

E. Center or left hand drive allowed.

F, Engine hood cover required. Engine compartment will remain open, no side panels. Hood
sides
may have a maximum of two (2) inch drop and hood shall not extend above mounting
point. Hood must extend minimum two (2) inched past radiator. Front grill or nose piece is
optional.

G. Maximum hood scoop height is six (6) inches.

H. Minimum 18 gauge steel
firewall and steel floor. One eighth (1/8) steel cover, over
driveline, on center drive cars.

I. The body may be channeled over the frame.

J. A complete production OEM frame with matching lower control arms and spindles in
factory location is required. Mus
t be a complete production frame front to rear. No custom
built frames allowed. No widening or of frames.Narrowing of frame allowed. Frame rails may
be cut to shorten wheel base. Frame sides must be the same length. No off
-
set frames.
(Rule will not be int
erpreted to outlaw 318 class cars constructed 2008 or earlier)

K. Minimum of ninety six (96) inch wheel base Right and left side wheel base shall be within
one (1) inch of each other.

L. Removal of frame behind rear most suspension mount is allowed.

M. No
part of racecar can be lower than four (4) inches measured from the ground up.

N. Banana wing is optional. Wing (need to get specs from cash welding in lovelock as they
have one of the original wings). No wikerbills.

O. Max spoiler height is six (6) inche
s measured from deck up.

P. Center of bumper, front and rear, must be 18 inches, plus or minus two inches, from the
ground up.

Q. Steel bumper must be used both front and rear and securely mounted with minimum 3/8
inch bolts or welded to the frame.

R. Bump
er must be made of minimum 1.25 inch OD tubing, .065 wall on front and .095 wall
on rear and able to support car when lifted by wrecker.

S. Two bar front bumpers must be mounted frame end

width of the frame horns, with the b
ottom loop parallel to the ground and no more than
eight (8) inches or less than six (6) inches center to center from top loop.

T. Top loop must be directly above bottom loop.

U. Two

bar rear bumper shall be no wider than the outside of the rear tires and
no narrower
than the inside of the rear tires with the bottom loop parallel to the ground and no more
than eight (8) inches or less than six (6) inches center to center from top loop. Bumper
must extend out from frame a minimum on 10 inches.

V. Steel nerf
bars are required and must not extend beyond the width of rear tires.


SUSPENSION, STEERING, & BRAKES


A. Front suspension type must be OEM as delivered with frame and must be replaced with
stock parts. Adjustable tubular upper control arms OK. Lower cont
rol arms must be OEM.
Mounting points may be removed.

B. Shock mount location is open.

C. No fabricated spindles.

D. Spindles can be ground for brake caliper clearance only.

E. If used, front sway bar must be OEM approved.

F. Suspension, steering and rear
end parts must be steel, shocks may be aluminum.

G. Any make production rack and pinion allowed

H. Steel steering shafts and knuckles only

I. Steering may be modified to suit driver's taste. Must be kept between frame rails.J.
Steering quickeners are allow
ed.

K. No devices allowed that would enable driver adjustment to alter wheelbase or for weight
jacking while car is in competition.

L. leaf springs or 3 link set ups may be used in rear suspension (no bird cages) Mounting
points may be changed. Single or m
ulti leafs OK. Trailing arms may be adjustable, Spring
sliders OK. Torsion bars allowed.

M. One shock per wheel only. No remote adjustable shocks. No air shocks/bags allowed.

N. Four (4) coil over per car, one (1) per wheel allowed.

O. Brakes are open as l
ong as spindles are OEM. Brakes are required on at least 3 wheels
and may be converted to disc. Driver brake bias control is allowed.

P. Heim joints allowed only in steering shaft supports and shocks,upper a arms, torque arm,
3 link trailing arms and panha
rd bar.

Q. Weight jacks OK.


TIRES & WHEELS


A. Wheels must be steel and no more than ten (10) inch wide. Right wheel only, is allowed a
bead lock. Wheel spacer shall not exceed one (1) inch thick.

B. Tire grooving and sipping is allowed.

C. Racing or DOT
tires allowed. Re
-
treads (such as Towel City) are allowed.


ROLL CAGES & SAFETY


A. Roll cage shall be constructed using 1.5 inch OD steel tubing or greater with a minimum
wall thickness of .095 inches thick. No tubing on the car can be any greater than 2
inches in
diameter. Six (6) point cage consisting of a four
-
point center section, and "kicker bars".
Center section of cage must consist of main hoop with "X" bracing and halo that clears the
drivers head when strapped in with helmet on. The four points of

the cage center section
must be securely welded to the car's frame rails.

B. Rear kicker bars are required to have cross bracing or any type of reinforcement.

C. Front cage hoop permitted.

D. Bar across back of engine is required.

E. No brace bars for
ward of cage may be higher than hood height.

F. A minimum of three side door bars, at least 1.5 inch OD is required on each side of car if
center drive. Left side drive requires at least two vertical bars on right side. They must be
as parallel with the fr
ame as possible and located perpendicular to the driver so as to
provide maximum protection for the driver. Bars should not cause difficulty in getting into or
out of vehicle.

G. Sidebars must be welded to the front and rear of the roll cage members.

H. Fu
ll size window nets are required on driver's side or both sides if driver sits in center.

I. Window nets to be mounted so latch is at top front of window/s.

J. Roll cage padding will be mounted to all areas of roll cage when the drivers body may
come in co
ntact with the cage or any other part of the interior.


FUEL AND FUEL CELL


A. Pump gas or race fuel allowed.

B. No performance enhancing fuel additives of any kind allowed.

C. No alcohol or nitrous oxide allowed.

D. Electric fuel pumps must have functioni
ng roll over switch.


WEIGHT


A. Car must weigh 2000 lbs wet with driver at the end of the race.B. Loose object and/or
weights must not be used outside of the body or hood area.

C. Ballast must be secured by two half
-
inch bolts or equivalent structural eng
ineering.
Ballast must be painted white and have the car number on it.
