Assignment

You have been given an assignment to prepare information for the general public on
reproductive processes. You are working to complete a reproductive brochure

or book

for the
public which will include information on asexual and sexual reproduction

in plants
. Your
assignment is to design a dynamic brochure

or book

that not only outlines the characteristics of
asexual and sexual reproduction
in plants
but also provides p
ictures, diagrams and examples.

Pictures and diagrams can be drawn or printed off from the internet and the brochure or book can
be made by hand or on the computer. You will have access to the computer lab for two classes.

You will be given

appprox

4 c
lasses

to work on this
-

two classes will be dedicated to research,
two classes for designing your brochure or book.

Procedure

1.

The
first thing

is to collect information;
see below for what information must be included
in your brochure
/book
.

2.

The second
thing that you need to do is decide on the layout and organization for which
you will represent the information that will go into your brochure
/book
. What pictures
will you use? What drawings will you use? Will you incorporate any labeled diagrams
that wil
l help the reader better understand the information you are providing?

Please include the following information in your brochure:

o

Selective Breeding & Genetic Engineering

(page 115
-
117)

What is Selective Breeding?

Provide one example of selective
breeding

What is Genetic Engineering?

Provide one example of genetic engineering

Provide two reasons as to why we would br
e
ed plants

In order to
breed

plants we must understand how they reproduce:

o

Describe mechanisms of asexual reproduction (also called
vegetative
reproduction)

(page 118
-
119)

What is asexual

(vegetative)

reproduction
?

What is
layering
?

What are one advantage and one disadvantage of asexual reproduction?

What is Grafting?

What is Cutting?

o

Describe mechanisms of sexual reproduction includ
ing:

What is sexual reproduction?

What are one advantage and one disadvantage of sexual reproduction?

o

3.

Once all information has been collected an
d the layout is made
, you need to begin putting
together
your

reproductive

brochure.

Tips:

Keep the information brief and easy to read
by using bullets, headings, bolding titles, and
increasing spacing between lines.

Make sure you are using an easy to read font and a good font
size.

Too much text appears cluttered and many people will not take the time to read cluttered text.

Don’t red
uce the size of a font to get more text on a page.

Be conc
ise and clear in your writing.

Provide photos for examples or use other graphic elements for eye appeal

and understanding.
