3. Brief Project Description:


Image capture under irregular lightening situation is always a big topic in academic.
Artificial retina is
developed to expand human vision ability. T

uman visual system

detect and encode t
wo characteristics of visible light, i.e., intensity and wavelength, interpret
ing

as
perceptual qualities of brightness and color. Another important characteristic of light, namely,
polarization,
has
not

be
en

effectively exploited.

Our recent research has introduced polarization into
artificial retina system design.
T
he image quality and dynamic range can be

greatly

improved
. More
application based on polarization will be explored in this project.

Project Design Objectives:


A

standard image sensor integrated polarization filter, with proper real
-
time image processing
algorithm is expected in this project.

he proposed system will be tested under irregular lightening
situation, such as very low/hig
h light
intensity

environment

or blurring lightening

environment
underwater.

eal

time image processing will be performed for further feature extraction, such as
target tracking or security monitoring.
