Abstract:

As
computers

continue to develop, we ask ourselves in which ways we can apply
them to our everyday lives. Recently,
automated

driving has become the newest craze in
the computer engineering world, as automated driving
is
not only is convenient, but could
save

thousands of lives
.

Companies like Google have already come out with a fully
autonomous vehicles and yearly competitions for the best autonomous car has strived
engineers to come up with new and better ideas each year.

In automated driving
,

and
orientation of the vehicle are determined by an image processing algorithm identifying
a white mi
ddle marker on the road. Two
algorithm

for image processing have

already

been designed: one b
ased on the pixel intensity profi
le and the other on vanishing po
ints in
the image plane.

In addition to these, edge detection can be applied
to find edges of roads
and other objects, such as stop signs and cars. Through my research project I will look into
these algorithms and edge detection schemes to see not only how

they work and apply to
automated driving, but the future of autonomous driving and how these methods can
advance and be applied.
