Cisco Jabber IM for Android
Cisco Jabber IMfor Android is an application that provides instant messaging and presence capabilities to
your Android device.Cisco Jabber IMfor Android is supported on the following Android Operating Systems
(OS):4.1,4.0,and 2.3.
With Cisco Jabber IMfor Android,you can:
• Launch chat sessions with contacts

Search for contacts in your contact list or corporate directory
• Add new contacts

Change your availability status
• Participate in group chats

Start or join Cisco WebEx meetings

Deploy Cisco Jabber IM for Android
Cisco Jabber IMfor Android supports the following deployment methods:
• Cisco Unified Presence
• Cisco WebEx Messenger (formerly known as Cisco WebEx Connect)
• Cisco WebEx Messenger with Single Sign-On
Port Usage
The following table lists the ports used by Cisco Jabber IMfor Android:

DNS SRV records are used to auto discover CUP and WebEx
servers.

Used to download contact photos or for XMPPover HTTP(BOSH
protocol) if HTTP proxy traversal is required to reach the WebEx
server.Also used for SSO authentication.

Connects to Cisco Unified Presence or Cisco Unified
Communications Manager IMand Presence for instant messaging
and presence.
TCP (XMPP)5222
8443 is the port for web access to Cisco Unified Communications
Manager and includes connections for the following:
• User Data Service (UDS) for contact resolution with CUP.

Cloud-based Deployments
You can deploy Cisco Jabber IMfor Android in an on-demand (or"cloud") environment by using the Cisco
WebEx Connect Administration Tool.To learn how to use this tool,consult the Cisco WebEx Connect
Administration Guide.
Recommended Installation
This is a list of high-level tasks that may not include every aspect of your configuration.Consult the
individual links for more information.
Note
To performthis type of deployment fromstart to finish,Cisco recommends that you follow the steps below
in the order specified:
1 Configure organization information.See Understanding the Configuration Tab.
2 Create and provision users.See Overview of User Management.
3 Configure IMand availability.See Cisco WebEx Connect federation with other instant messaging providers.
4 (Optional) Configure Single Sign-On.See Single Sign-On.
Like the desktop WebEx Connect Client,Cisco Jabber IMfor Android maps to your Single Sign-On setup
in the Cisco WebEx Connect Administration Tool.Federated SSO(trusted authentication across multiple
IT systems or organizations) uses the browser on the mobile device to access your corporate Identity
Management System(IDMS) page.

Send Instructions to Users
After you set up Cisco Jabber IMfor Android on Cisco WebEx Messenger or Cisco Unified Presence,give
users the following information:
• User documentation with instructions for setting up Cisco Jabber IMfor Android.See http://
www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps12746/products_user_guide_list.html.
• Instructions on how to download and install Cisco Jabber IMfor Android fromGoogle Play (formerly
known as Google Android Market).

All applicable authentication credentials.
• For Cisco Unified Presence deployments,instructions for connecting a mobile device to the corporate
Wi-Fi network.This process is independent of Cisco Jabber IMfor Android.

For Cisco Unified Presence deployments,users outside the corporate network who are setting up Cisco
Jabber IMfor Android for the first time must connect to the corporate network using a VPNconnection.
Provide instructions to help users download,install,and set up a VPN client to access the corporate
network remotely.

Troubleshooting
Feedback
Instruct the user to provide feedback by completing the following steps:
1 Depending on the user interface,tap either the Action Overflow button or the Menu button.
2 Tap Settings > Send feedback.
3 Enter feedback and tap Send.
Connectivity
If the user is on company premises and connected to the Wi-Fi network but cannot get Cisco Jabber IMfor
Android to work,instruct the user to check the Wi-Fi settings.If the status bar indicates Wi-Fi connectivity,
instruct the user to verify the corporate Wi-Fi network connection by opening a browser and connecting to
an internal website.
If properly connected,Cisco Jabber IMfor Android should automatically connect.
If Cisco Jabber IMfor Android still does not connect,instruct the user to verify Wi-Fi settings using the
following steps:
1 On the Android home screen,use one of the following steps,depending on the operating system:
• Depending on the user interface,tap either the Action Overflow button or the Menu button.
• Tap Settings > Wireless and network > Wi-Fi settings.
2 Verify that the access point is connected.
If the user is still not connected using Cisco Unified Presence outside the corporate network,instruct the user
to set up a VPN connection and connect to the corporate network before signing in to Cisco Jabber IMfor
Android.
Cisco Unified Presence Login
If the user is unable to log in using Cisco Unified Presence credentials,instruct the user to performthe following
steps:
1 On the Cisco Jabber IMfor Android login screen,tap either the Action Overflow button or the Menu
button,depending on the user interface.
2 Tap Manual Configuration.
3 Enter the Cisco Unified Presence server IP address.
