Integrating Cloud Computing
I am writing to recommend that our school integrate cloud computing with our school
curriculum. Cloud computing
means storing and accessing data and programs over the Internet
instead of on our school’s hard drive. The cloud is just a metaphor for the Internet
. Students
would be able to access
approved
information and applications from anywhere at any time.
They
could start a project on a
co
mputer
at school and then be able to work on the project
on their
home computer
. Also, several students could be working on the same project at the same time
and several classes could be using the same applications at the sam
e time. Another reason to use
cloud computing is it can bring hardware
and software
costs down. No longer would the school
have to worry about getting the fastest machines with the largest memories. The cloud system
will take care of both.
There are many
types of free application software out there so the school
system doesn’t have to purchase as much software.
. Cloud computing can be used to create
multimedia presentations and projects using many different types of free web applications such
as Animoto
, Storybird, and VoiceThread.
Finally, cloud computing can save on IT support
because the technicians do not have to go around to
many
different machine
s
. The technician
can ju
st help with organization and with software selections and with machine malfu
nctions.
The biggest concerns with using cloud computing are security and privacy. With such
widespread sharing,
hackers are watching to see when they can make their move. Using
authentification techniques for entry could solve the security issue. Priv
acy is a little bit more
difficult to control because several people may be working together and you never know when
someone may decide to share your information with someone else.
