eyeQi BUS

Install Instructions


These install instructions must be followed to install the eyeQi BUS software onto a Windows NT or XP
system. The system will be installed using Windows native services in order to properly manage the server
software.


Prer
equisites:

1)

The operating system must be Windows NT or XP

2)

The installing user has “Administrator” privileges

3)

The computer must be able to reach the internet in order to download additional components.

4)

No instances of Apache Tomcat or PostgreSQL is installed

5)

The Sun JDK version 1.5.0_09 must be installed

a.

Verify that the system has the Sun JDK version 1.5.0_09 installed

b.

Open a command prompt

i.

Start / Run / “cmd” / OK

c.

At the prompt, type “java

version”

d.

Verify the version is
"1.5.0_09"

e.

Download the JDK from Sun
and install if needed

6)

The eyeQi BUS must not already be installed.

a.

If it is being reinstalled, remove any existing eyeQi BUS before installing


Installation:

1)

Determine the target path on the system for the software to install to.

a.

Example:
c:
\
eyeqi

b.

This wi
ll be referred to as “EYEQ_HOME” for the remainder of these instructions.

2)

Set system environment variables

a.

Start / Control Panel / System / Advanced (tab) / Environment Variables

b.

Find the “System Variables” section

c.

Find the “PATH” variable, and press “Edit
” to change it

d.

In the “Variable value” field, add the DLL files to the end of the value

as:

i.

\
lib;
EYEQ_HOME
\
tracker

lib

ii.

Remember to separate path elements by “;” characters

e.

Click “OK” to save the Environment Variables

f.

Click “OK” to s
ave the System Properties

3)

Unpa
ck the eyeQi
-
installer.zip file into a temporary directory

a.

Example: c:
\
temp
\

4)

Run the Install Script

a.

Open a command prompt

i.

Start / Run / “cmd” / OK

b.

Navigate the command prompt t
o the install directory

i.

“cd c:
\
temp
\
install”

c.

Run t
he install bat file

i.

“install.bat”

5)

Follow the install prompt instructions.

a.

Generally the default values for configuration parameters will be sufficient

b.

The install should look similar to the following image

When asked to install PostgreSQL
, follow these
screenshots

i.

Choose the “English / English” language

ii.

Click “Next”

iii.

Use the Defaults for “Installation Options”

iv.

The “Account domain” should default to the local machine’s

NT

domain

a.

The default may not be “SINGLE”, which is ok.

2.

Set the Windows account
password as “postgres”

v.


1.

Set the “Locale” to “English, United States”

Set Encoding to “UTF
-
8”

3.

Set the superuser password to “postgres”

Select “Next”

vii.

Select “Next”

viii.

Select “Next” to being the install

ix.


1.

Wait for the installation to complete.

The servi
ce should now be started.

xi.

Verify that the “PostgreSQL Database Server 8.1” service is running

Note the install directory of the PostgreSQL database

For Tomcat installation, follow these screen shots

i.


1.

Begin Tomcat

installation by clicking “Next”.

ii.

Agree to the Apache License

iii.


1.

Select the appropriate components to install

a.

Tomcat

b.

Service

c.

Native

d.

Start Menu Items

iv.


1.

Set the Destination Folder to “
EYEQ_HOME
\
tomcat”

2.

Note this value for use later.

v.


1.

Change the Port to 80

2.

Set the User Name and Password to “admin”

vi.


1.

Verify the location of the JRE to use, the default should be fine.

vii.


1.

Wait for the install to complete.

2.

Additional JNI components will download from the internet.

viii.


1.

Do NOT start the Apache Tomcat service just yet.

g.

Start the Tomcat monitor

i.

Start Menu / Programs / Apache Tomcat 5.5 / Monitor Tomcat

h.

Tomcat should not be running just yet.

i.

With the Tomcat Monitor running, right click on the system tray
icon
and choose “Start Service”

i.


ii.

You can alternatively use the Wind
ows Service Manager to start/stop Tomcat.

Open a web browser and navigate to the web application at

i.

http://127.0.0.1/
