Development of encryption technology for biometric authentication
- Fortifying security functions preventing compromise of biometric data-
The Systems Development Laboratory (GM: Dr. MAEDA Akira) of Hitachi, Ltd., has developed a technique to encrypt
biometric image data and to enable matching of the data without decryption, for biometric personal ID systems where
personal biometric data is pre-enrolled and then matched to verify personal identity. This technology will further fortify
security measures to prevent the leakage of biometric data during transmission or from servers in network-based biometric
authentication systems, thus providing safe and assured service. The results of this research will be presented at the 2007 Symposium on Cryptography and Information Security (SCIS2007) to be held from 23
rd
to
26th January 2007, in Sasebo, Nagasaki, Japan.
