CLINICAL MICROBIOLOGY CATEGORICAL CONCENTRATION
All potential students interested in the Microbiology Categorical Concentration must meet these
1. All students must already have earned a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution.
2. All students must have completed the science prerequisite courses, as listed below, within the
past 7 years. Equivalent courses will be considered on a case by case basis.
a. Principles of Molecular and Cell Biology with Lab
b. Human or Mammalian Physiology
c. General Microbiology with Lab (400 level course)
e. General Chemistry I and II with Labs
f. Organic Chemistry I with Lab
3. All students must contact a CLS program advisor prior to submitting the application for the
Microbiology Categorical Concentration.
4. All students must complete the standard application process for the CLS program as outlined in
the Application Packet
The KU Clinical Laboratory Sciences program gives preferential admission to those students planning to
complete the generalist CLS or Molecular Biotechnology concentration. Admission to the Microbiology
Categorical course of study is dependent on the availability of student slots once all full‐time applicants
are considered and offered positions in the program.
The following suggested Microbiology Categorical Study Plan is subject to modification and will be
tailored to each individual student at the time of acceptance into the program.
