Research Paper

Patricia
XXXXXX

Over the past several years I have done volunteer work in a church environment
and have wished for equipment that would make my work more productiv
e and the
output more exciting. With this in mind, I have focused my research project on a
hypothetical rural church with a desire to install a computer system to meet all their tech
needs. To accomplish this, I will work “backwards” in listing equipmen
t and supplies.

As we enter the sanctuary on any Sunday morning, we are greeted an
d handed a
bulletin listing songs, announcements, prayer request, and the like. To print this, I have
chosen the Dell
TM
Photo All
-
in
-
One Printer 964.

This peripheral boast

of sever
al
features
including borderless

printing, a built
-
in 33.6 Kbps fax/modem, and unattended
multi
-
page hands
-
free photocopying and faxing with 50
page

ADF.

“Dell crams a
whole host of features into this compact, we
ll
-
priced multifunction unit.”
a
ccord
ing to
Paul Jasper of PC World.
2

With the ability to instantly print photos, many creative uses
also are available to teachers.

To design this bullet
in, I will use the Printmaster
®

Platinum
17 DVD
. This
software puts unlimite
d creativity at my
fingertips!
3

With it, I can design bulletins,
newsletters, postcards, and an unlimited amount of craft related projects for children’s
programs.

Once we have received our program, we choose a place to sit. Permanently
mounted in the front of the room i
s the

104 x 140”

Cineperm Projection Screen.
It

is
a
flexible

viewing
surface stretched

flat
to provide a contempo
rary, theatre
-
like
appearance.
4

Projecting

the
morning’s

announceme
nts onto the screen is the Sanyo
PLC
-
XU48 Ultraportable

LCD Multimedia
Projector. This projector features a 1/2 x to
16x digital zoom that allows the true (1024 x768) resolution images to display with its
total of 2,359,296 pixels.
5

It is flexible, and able to
overcome (trapezoidal) picture
distortion, it provides verti
cal keystone correction with a range up to plus or minus 20
o
.

The announcements are presented
from a PowerPoint Presentation.
6

While watching the announcements, we would listen to soft contemporary gospel
music through the Logi
tech
®

Z
-
5450 Digital 5.1 S
peakers
. This 315
-
watt speaker
system provides clutter
-
free, high
-
fidelity digital surround sound. This system is THX
-
certified. For those movie nights, it also supports Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks
with analog inputs for connecting DVD players as w
ell as our computer. Both of these
can be controlled
wirelessly by remote control.
7

I’ve chosen the Dimensio
n 9200 from Dell with a Windows
®

XP Professional
operating system (with a back up CD).

This PC comes with a mouse and a keypad.
This PC

also
comes with a 19 inch
E196FP Analog Flat Panel monitor, but I will be upgrading that to
the FlexScan
®

L560T
-
C17 inch Gray Touch Panel Color LCD Monitor from EIZO. It has a great
picture quality with resolutions of up to 1280 x 1024 pixels. Of it’s many fe
atures, the
FlexScan L560T has an analog capacitive panel compatible with XP. It has a minimum
“225 million touches” touch life, and provides fast touch response.
One of the coolest
features is a sensor used to measure “the backlight brightness and compe
nsate for
brightness fluctuations caused by the ambient temperature and the passage of time.”
14

With Intel

®

Core TM2 Duo Pro
cessor E6700
,

I can harness the top
-
of
-
the line
computing power needed
.

8

This multi
-
core processor is built on Intel’s
microar
chitecture technology and boast increased speed and energy

efficiency.

I’ve added 4 GB Dual Channel
DDR2 SDRAM

(or Synchronous DRAM) at 533
MHz with 4 DIMMs (dual in
-
line memory module) memory. DDR2 transfers 64 bits of
data twice every clock cycle,
and
DIMM

has a 64 bit path.
9

Also included is DataSafe 500 GB Hard Drive. DataSafe is “an automatic backup
system that

rolls back the clock”
10

In the event of trouble
, I can back up to preserve my
work without having to worry about external devi
ces.

I want
Dual Drives: 48 x Combo + 16x DVD+/RW with double layer recording
technology. With this, recordings can be edited on disk and other features. For example,
if a group went on a mission trip, that video could be presented to the church showing
their undert
akings.
11

For graphics, I have chosen
the NVIDIA

GeForce 7950 GX2 Dual
-
GPU Graphics
Card
. According to PC Perspective, it outperforms every other video card they tested.

Coupling two GPUs in m
ulti
-
GPU rendering with 1 GB
of total frame buffer memory,
t
he GX2 makes the most of NVIDIA technology to bring a best
-
in
-
class offering to the
table.

If you want the fastest single graphics card on the market, then this is going to be it
for some time.

12

For sound, I have chosen the
Sound Blaster
®

X
-
FiTM Xtreme
Music (D) Sound
Card
. Although this may be looked upon as a
gamers’

preference
, Creative

Labs has
added high performance with its
many gaming
-
specific features.
13

To protect my electronics, I have picked the Home Office 550VA 300W
Uninterruptible Power S
upply. This features 4 battery backup outlets with surge
protection and 2 surge only outlets. It provides protection against surges, spikes,
blackouts and lightning strikes.
1

One additional software package I would like to have would be the Church Hel
pmate
TM

This has been designed specifically for churches and helps with administrative processes
for the church and the community it serves.

With it you can track meetings and
attendance, groups and group memberships, and visitation. You can make easy to

understand reports, charts/graphs, and produce mailing labels.
