Rules and Regulations


Eligibility

The competition is open
to
all
students in Secondary Schools

(Secondary 1 to Secondary 5)
.

Entries
have to be made on the prescribed Entry Form which can be downloaded
from the following website:
http://www.np.edu.sg/lsct/biofair2008


Each Entry Form must have a brief summary of the project (not exceeding 200 words). Completed
Entry Forms must be submitted through the teacher

Note that there is no need to submit a detailed description of the project, a brief summary will suffice.


Project

The theme for this year’s Biotech Fair is a “World in Crisis.” Projects should ideally be aligned to this
theme. However the theme is s
ufficiently broad to allow students to develop projects in a wide range
of project areas such as those related to food, agriculture, disease, energy and the environment. The
projects should similarly be undertaken in an area related to biotechnology such a
s microbiology,
molecular biology, food biotechnology, agrotechnology, enzyme technology, forensic biology as well
as environmental biotechnology.


Each team should not exceed FIVE students.


The teacher in charge is expected to brief students on safety i
ssues and the report should include a
section on safety procedures involved in the project.


Students undertaking projects involving Microbiology and Molecular Biology must be aware of good
microbiology practices. A detailed final project report (3 copies
; not exceeding 5000 words) should be
submitted by

Judging

A panel of judges will be appointed by the
Biotech Fair
Organising Committee.

Setting up of Project
Display

All entries will be displayed at Ngee Ann Polytechnic during the Biotech Fair
. Exhibits are confined
to a floor space of
60cm x 120cm. Posters should not be larger than 100cm x 100cm. A small table
(650mm x 600 mm) will be provided as well. Students will be informed of their designated place and
time to set up their displays.

of August 2008.). Displays should be removed immediately after the Fair.
