VBS System Requirements

SQL Server Environment

Architecture Overview

In this environment, the database is created (and converted in the case of upgrades)
through Java code contain
ing SQL statements using the Microsoft JDBC driver.

As for the software, there is a Windows based component and a web
-
based
component. The Windows version is required to run the VBS Back Office, and it is
deployed by installing a copy of the VBS Back Offi
ce software (written in Java) on a
web server where it is then automatically installed/upgraded on the client PC when
the user accesses the VBS Back Office. This keeps the user copy at the correct
version level.

Data access is done via a provided JDBC dri
ver as each Back Office session will
have a direct connection to the database.

For the web
-
based component, this Java code is installed under a Web Application
Server (i.e., WebSphere) and the user accesses it through a browser.

Data access for the web is
done via a provided JDBC driver that is installed as part
of the web application inside of WebSphere. In this environment, WAS handles all
database connections as the browser sessions have no direct access to the database
server.

System Requirements

Below

lists the minimum requirements needed to run the VBS. In the case that
software from other vendors is needed, it is assumed that all the latest Service Packs
or Patches are applied, unless otherwise noted.

All printing requires a graphics capable printer

such as a laser printer. Dot matrix or
impact printers are not supported.

Configuration of firewalls, proxy servers and other network equipment is the
responsibility of the customer.
