Background of the evaluation


Discipline and research field evaluations at the Academy of
Finland is one of the key elements in a
long

term

development of
research and
science policy in our country



So far, around 30 different discipline evaluations carried out by AF

Biotechnology in Finland, 2002


Nursing and Caring Sciences, 2003



Suggestion for dental evaluation from the researchers in the field

Purpose of the evaluation



The evaluation should cover the discipline (odontology)
nationwide with a view to assessing the strengths and
weaknesses of Finnish dental research and to secure
internationally high
-
standard research/researchers in Finland
in the future.

To evaluate the scientific quality of dentistry in Finland as
compared to the international level

To identify the strengths and weaknesses of the research

To estimate communication and collaboration with key partners
at home and abroad

To estimate the significance of dentistry in Finnish society

To evaluate the efficacy of the research, i.e. how much scientific
output is produced in relation to the resources invested

To evaluate the quality of research training

7)
To make suggestions and recommendations to ensure the
complement of qualified academicians in Finland in the future

To make suggestions and recommendations for the further
development of dental research and research policy in Finland
