Nanotechnology related companies in Azerbaijan
State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (
SOCAR
) has approved "NANONEFT" program for 2010
-
2015, which
envisages the use of new nano
-
active substances
and chemical agents in the oil production, drilling, and
petrochemical industries.
The program consists of four parts devoted to oil production, drilling, petrochemistry and oil
industry's environmental problems. It is based on scientific advances mad
e since 2005. The document
outlines the current situation, goals and results already achieved, as well as plans for 2010
-
2015 and
expected sources of economic gain.
The environmental part of the program specifies measures to address such problems as ut
ilization of
reservoir water and more efficient separation of oil from sand and water at oil sludge facilities

.
It should be noted
that
this
research
center
has a
high
potential in the field of
solar cells
. T
he ability
of the
scientists
of the
Institute of Physics
to conduct
research
in the field of
thin
film
solar cells
and
scientific
potential
has made
necessary this
joint
cooperation
between
the
institutions
. Preparation of nanostructured window layers on the base of
double
and
triple
halkogenids
for sollar elements as well as diamond
-
like shells for protection of sollar
elements and defining their characteristics are reflected in the item
s of the Memorandum. The
Memorandum is of great importance for production of highly effective thin film sollar batteries in
Azerbaijan in the future

The scientists of the Joint Institute of Informatics Problems (JIIP) under the National Academy
of
Sciences of Belarus and the Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan will
implement a series of joint projects in the area of nanotechnologies, BelTA learnt from JIIP . The
implementation of the projects is stipulated in th
e cooperation agreement signed by Belarus and
Azerbaijan in Baku at the XIV Azerbaijani international expo of telecommunications
and informa
tion
technologies BakuTel
-
2008.
Under the agreement, the Belarusian and Azerbaijani scientists will work on
the creation of new
methods, algorithms and software for modeling nanostructures. The specialists will develop new
elements for helioenergetics, carry out joint research of output performance of polyatomic and
condensed systems. The agreement is to promote
the cooperation between the scientists of the two
countries in the area of physics, biophysics, nuclear physics, information and space technologies. For
example, the specialists will study the properties of different regimes of electric
-
power systems, dev
elop
measures to secure the smooth transmission of power. The scientists will develop up
-
to
-
date
information systems to monitor oil and gas facilities and create information technologies to forecast
various environmental processes. Apart from that, the sid
es will unite supercomputer resources for
more efficient implementation of IT technologies in industry, energy and medicine.
Becides
governmental funding, the enterprises are also sources of research funding for product
development. In fact all ente
rprises engaged in various technologies have own laboratories. Enterprises
often support joint projects with ANAS to direct research towards commercialization.
Taking into account the role of highly qualified specialists in the future development of
the country
the government supports training employees in different sectors of the economy.

Taking into account critical role of nanotechnologies in obtaining various new materials in the high

tech industry, developing information technologies under the Ministry of Communication and
Information Technology there has been established High Tec
hnology Research Center financed from the
state budget

launched the pilot project in March of
2009. To produce electric
power near Sumgait city there have been set two wind devices "Vestas V52" made in Denmark

Research groups dealing with nano science and technology in Azerbaijan
Most of the Universities and Research Centers have their own rooms, spectroscopy and electron
microscopy
facilities. Though there is some overlapping of research areas, each University/Center is
recognized as expert in particular fields.
At present to develop scientific

research works in the field of nanotechnology in Baku State
University

of departments of chemistry, physics, biology, applied mathematics and
cybernetics there has been created Nano Research Center. At the Center there are developed
technology of obtaining nanoparticles , studied optic and electric properties. These works a
re realized in
Nano Research Center, at branchs of
“Electronics”
,
“Chemical physics of nanomaterials”, “Optic and
molecular physics”, “Physics of solid objects” of the department of Physics, “Macromolecular
compounds” of the department of chemistry and
“Semiconductor physics ”
branch of the Institute of
Physical Problems.
The Baku State University and CIS International Innovation Center for Nanotechnology have signed
Memorandum.

envisages
organization of bilateral scient
ific symposiums, seminars and
conferences, participation in joint projects and international programs in nanotechnology, holding joint
training programs and creating environment for innovation and research investment in this sphere.
