Knowledge Creation Tools Phase 2 (KCT2)

A research project conducted by Group SolutionS

Overview

KCT2 is a project conducted by researchers from three faculties in collaboration with three
commercial or government organizations. It follows up previous wor
k led by Jim Callan and
reported at refereed conferences. There are five outcomes identified for this phase:

Activity 1.

Within Classrooms


Extends work on learning teams within the classroom,
using face to face Zing Team Learning System (ZTLS).

Activity 2.

Planning for classroo
ms


Applying GSS technology and processes to evaluate
school programs and to effect change.

Activity 3.

Across classrooms
-

Learning teams across classrooms & schools, and removal
of class boundaries, using ZTLS web technology (known as Zing Thing).

Basic research into team interaction and impact of
culture.

Activity 5.

Learning Team Infrastructure


Establish Zing Thing infrastructure and
management, identification and solution of implementation problems/issues.

KCT2 Duration

Essentially KCT2 will complete by end of 2003. All field activities will complete by 18
December. Analysis and write up may extend into the new year, and some planning for
KCT3 (phase 3) is included in the plan
below. Note that funding is from two sources, some of
which is required to be expended by 1 December. Planned outcomes are therefore limited to
one paper from each activity.

Activity 1.

Within Classrooms

i.

Evaluate use of knowledge creation tools
in teaching and assessment, extending the
work of phase 1.

ii.

Data will be collected from teachers via structured interviews.

iii.

Journal article.

Activity 2.

Planning for classrooms

i.

Using Zing Team Room (ZTR) to support school triennial evaluation.

ii.

Data collected on meeting

process, efficiency, effectiveness and the extent to which the
use of this technology enabled outcomes not achieved in previous reviews.

iii.

Refereed conference paper and school report on school program evaluation.

(from Phase 1) to connect classrooms, investigating the
extension of learning teams across classroom boundaries and spanning geographic
distance.
