SWT SEVIS User Fee Basic Information and Links

All Work and Travel Applicants MUST pay the $35 fee to SEVIS before their Visa Application
Appointment at the nearest US Embassy or Consulate. This brief document, describes how to pay the
SEVIS fee successfully.
You MUST bring your receipt from the SEVIS fee with you to your Visa Application Appointment, without
it you will not be considered for a J-1 Work and Travel Visa

Please Note

Arranging for and completing payment of this fee is the entire responsibility of the J-1 Visa Applicant.
CICD does not collect or pay this fee and does not assist you with making these arrangements in
your country.

For all Work and Travel Participants who received DS-2019 dated September 1, 2004 or beyond who
will be applying for their J-1 visa, there is a new $35 "user fee" required by U.S. Immigration and
Customs Enforcement (USICE).

Before you can pay the fee, you must first:
· Either be currently enrolled in an approved school or exchange visitor program or have been
accepted into one. You will need your DS-2019.
Determine if you need to pay the fee. For more information, see the section

decision about your visa, entry into the United States or other application where the fee is
Form I-901
You will need to fill in a Form I-901 with information from your Form I-20 or DS-2019 and pay the
required fee. For Work and Travel programs, the SEVIS I-901 fee is $35. See the

for more detailed fee information. You have the option of paying an additional $30 to have your receipt
sent by expedited delivery (courier service) rather than by mail.

What documents do I need to fill in my Form I-901?
You need the information from your DS-2019 to fill out the Form I-901. You do not need to send a
copy with the Form I-901.

Payment Options
You can pay your fee by
credit or debit card
if you are submitting your form online. If you pay by
or debit card,
you should print out a receipt if you need one immediately and cannot wait to receive a
receipt through the mail. You must bring this receipt with you to your Visa appointment at the US
Embassy or Consulate. Print off the receipt immediately online after paying the fee and bring it with
you to your Visa Appointment. See the section on
