HOW TO (Windows XP)

You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group to complete
this procedure. If yo
ur computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may also
prevent you from completing this procedure.



Click
Start
, point to
Settings
, click
Control Panel
, double
-
click
Add or Remove Programs
, and
then click
Add/Remove Windows Components
.




In Components, click
Management and Monitoring Tools

(but do not select or clear its check
box), and then click
Details
.




Select the
Simple Network Management Protocol

check box, and click
OK
.



Click
Next
.



Insert the respective CD or specify the complet
e path of the location at which the files stored.



SNMP starts au
tomatically after installation.



This completes the installation process. This also implements
all defaults M

onfiguring SNMP Agents


To configure SNMP agent in Windows XP and 2000 systems, follow the steps given below:



Click
Start
, point to
Settings
,
and click

Control Panel
.



Under Administrative Tools, click
Services
.



In the details pane, right
-
click
SNMP Service

and select
Properties
.




In the
Security

tab, select
Send authentication trap

if you want a trap message to be sent
whenever authentication fails.



Under Accepted community names, click
Add
.



The community name will be:
grid

(lower cases).



Under
Communit
y Rights
, select a permission level for this host to process SNMP requests from
the selected community.



We just need to activate

only

rights (ro).



In
Community Name
, type a case
-
sensitive community name, and then click
Add
.




Specify whether or not t
o accept SNMP packets from a host:

To accept SNMP requests from any host on the network, regardless of identity, click
Accept SNMP packets from any host

To limit acceptance of SNMP packets, click
Accept SNMP packets from these hosts

Add
, type the

appropriate host name, IP or IPX address, and then click
Add

again.



The only node allowed the request SNMP values will be the

localhost

. Please add the
IP

Address

of the hosting node (this node).



Click
Apply

to apply the changes.

. Running the Monitor
ing Agents




Move the sblomars folder to root:
C:
\



Go to sblom
ars path:
C:
\
sblomars
\



Edit the file
snmpd.conf

and substitute the
“localhost”

for the IP Address of the hosting node
.



Run the .bat file:
sblomars.bat



It will automatically to compile the code a
nd then it will be executed.



5. Collecting data




The monitored information will be stored into the folder:
\
sblomars
\
data
\
...
