Have you ever wondered how
maps are created? These are
questions for a surveyor.
Surveyors measure and draw
what the earth's surface looks
like.

Surveyors do different types of
work. Some measure land, air
space, and water areas. They
also define air space for airports.
In addition, they measure
construction and mineral sites.

Surveyors measure distances,
directions, and angles between
points and elevations of points,
lines, and contours on, above,
and below the Earth’s surface.

In the field, they select known
survey reference points and
determine the precise location of
important features in the survey
area using specialized
equipment.

Surveyors also research legal
records, look for evidence of
previous boundaries, and
analyze data to determine the
location of boundary lines.

Surveyors also record their
results, verify the accuracy of
data, and prepare plots, maps,
and reports.

Surveyors who set up
boundaries must be licensed by
the State in which they work.

What is surveyor?

URVEYOR

:A
GREAT

CAREER

OPTION

India is a emerging global power economically and in terms of
Military strength . The govt. thrust is on continuously improving the
infrastructre facilities like roads, rail ways, dams , pipelines of
water, gas , oil and sewage. Huge infrastructure spend has been
earmarked for the same.

Schemes like Jawharlal Nehru urban renewal mission have been
floated by central government so that sate govt. and muncipal
bodies get subsidy upto 85 % for roads and sewage pipe lines.

This has generated huge demand for surveyors. Surveyors are first
level technocrats who are involved in planning of such projects.

Plans to build Hundreds of kilometers of roads and pipelines
coupled with need for digitizing the maps and need for information
to be made available in GIS ( Geographical Information System)
has lead to huge demand for surveyors.

An increasing number of firms are interested in geographic information
and its applications.

For example, GIS can be used to create maps and information used in
emergency planning, security, marketing, urban planning, natural
resource exploration, construction, and other applications.

Also, the increased popularity of online mapping systems has created a
higher demand for and awareness of geographic information among
consumers. They have started demanding GIS/GPS based maps on
mobiles.

Urban planners want to improve every nook and corner of city, which is
possible only using GIS. Also utilities like water and electricity also are
increasingly using GIS to plan and monitor their networks and it is
becoming a important tool in the maintaienance of the same.

Overall employment of surveyors, surveying and mapping technicians
is expected to increase by 21 percent from 2006 to 2016, which is
much faster than the average for all occupations. Increasing demand
for fast, accurate, and complete geographic information will be the
main source of growth for these occupations.

Surveying is related to the work of civil engineers, architects, and
landscape architects because an accurate survey is the first step in
land development and construction projects.

Opportunities for surveyors should remain concentrated in
engineering, surveying, mapping, building inspection, and drafting
services firms.

Advancements in technology,

The
Leica

Total Station
is highly accurate tools for surveying, students having
hands on LIECA are

in very much demand.

And at SDCT technical institute students have
great opportunity to work on LIECA.
And also latest Auto
-
cad version provided.

Whereas, in other institutes or Government colleges
lack such facility.

The
Leica

Total Station offers robotic functioning
capability as well as reflector less measurement
options. Both the functionality and operational skills are
greatly increased by the ability to operate the Total
Station by a sole user with the controller attached to
the detail pole operating the main instrument.

The reflector less capacity enables the Total Station to
survey remotely between user defined points.
