010 International Conference - New York City
Dear PACA Conference Attendees,
Welcome to the 15th Annual PACA International Conference. New York City is a fantastic
place to be in October, and we are pleased to be back at the epicenter of North America’s
advertising, media and publishing world. For an industry that touches so many diverse
areas, from technology to advertising and publishing, it’s hard to conjure a location that
provides more opportunity for networking.
The PACA community exists to promote the interests and vitality of our industry. Over the past
year, there have been significant threats to our industry that PACA is actively working against,
including copyright registration rulings and piracy. As a community and trade organization,
PACA provides a clear collective voice on these critical issues in these challenging times.
Coming together as a community helps shape our interests, and supports our collective efforts
against these threats.
This year’s conference has outstanding programming. I would like to thank our talented
International Conference Committee and Chair for their hard work in bringing together a
highly relevant, information rich program; with the networking opportunities, it is truly a prime
environment for the exchange of intelligence that can help you position your business for
prosperity.
To those attendees who have travelled from outside North America, I trust you’ll gain keen
insight into our marketplace and trends. To all conference attendees, I look forward to your
participation and wish you a successful time in New York City.
Warm regards,
Robert Henson
PACA President, 2010-2012
Dear PACA Conference Attendees,
Welcome to PACA’s 15th International Conference, back in New York City by popular
demand!
This year we wanted to focus on equipping you with “tools” that you can take back to your
business to use straight from the Conference. The International Conference Committee has
worked hard to provide a variety of sessions, with inspirational keynote speakers and expert
panel discussions, where your industry questions will be answered.
The Keynote sessions kick off on Saturday morning with Richard Levine of Condé Nast
on
‘The Impact of the iPad and the Future Use of Content’
in the magazine industry; in the
afternoon Brian Storm will take you through
‘Multimedia Storytelling’
by his award-winning
company, MediaStorm; then on Sunday morning Scott Belsky will be
‘Making Ideas Happen’
with insights from his bestselling book on how creative people can be more productive.
Then the panels you cannot miss:
-

Nancy Wolff and her panellists fight piracy
-

Motion: how, why and whether you should
-

How to harness the cloud in
The Digital Toolbox
-

SEO and its importance
-

Social media and how to get real-time results.
The PACA International Conference would not be possible without the work of many
volunteers. I’d like to thank the International Conference Committee, for all their ideas and
hard work in putting together the sessions: Carissa Fair, David Price-Hughes, Dean Siracusa,
Joe Naylor, Lauretta Dives, Lisa Curesky, Lynn Eskenazi. Thanks also to the new Board for
contributing advice and ideas, especially Alan Bailey, the International Coference Committee
Board Liaison.
Special thanks must also go to the PACA Executive Director Cathy Aron, Assistant Director
Morgan Dawirs and Technical Advisor Doug Dawirs – without their tireless work (often at very
antisocial hours) this Conference would not be able to take place.
We hope you have an enjoyable and productive Conference weekend!

By Richard Levine, Condé Nast, VP
Editorial Operations

This session will focus on the future of content
and how the editorial market consumes and

They are currently working on an Adobe Air

offers magazines significant opportunities to
greatly expand and enhance their content; and
how his staff adapts in this rapidly-evolving
environment.
Levine works with Condé Nast’s consumer
magazines on a broad range of operational
issues, as well as new initiatives—including the
development of digital editions and websites.
He served for three years as Vice President
