GPP/AQUENTIUM Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) are
prefabricated insulated structural elements for use in
building walls, ceilings, floors and roofs. They are made
in a factory and shipped to job sites to replace
conventional stud or "stick frame" construction. SIPs
may be called foam
-
core panels, stress
-
skin panels,
sandwich panels, or structural foam panels.
Our SIPs are engineered laminated panels with solid
foam cores and structural sheathing on each side. The
most common types of sheathing or skins materials are
oriented strand board (OSB).
GPPAQNM manufacture
panels with fiber
-
cement sheathing that provide higher
strength and waterproofing.

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS)
*
Molded expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam
plastic insulation for building construction
applications.
*
The rigid closed cellular structure of EPS
insulation:
–
Does not contain any ozone depleting
chemicals
–
Provides long term thermal resistance,
strength & stiffness and resists water
absorption.
*
EPS insulation is structurally bonded between
two Fiber Cement panels to create a
Structural Insulated Panel (SIP).
What is R
-
Value?
•
The measure of the capacity of a
material, such as insulation, to
impede heat flow, with increasing
values indicating a greater capacity.
•
The overall R
-
Value for standard 6
½” GPPAQNM Wall Panel is 25.47
•
ColoradoEnergy.org
features an
•
R
-
Value table that is worth checking
out.
What R
-
values do SIPs have?
The R
-
value of a SIP varies depending on the
thickness and type of foam core used.
SIPs perform better than traditional systems
because they are manufactured in a controlled
environment characterized by uniform
fabrication of components without gaps or air
pockets.
They are also designed for efficient field
installation that reduces air infiltration, and
there are fewer thermal breaks or penetrations
in the panels that are typical of wood frame
construction.
The “R” Factor
What is the R
-
value of the
Aquentium panels?
•
There are three methods of heat transfer
-
convection, conduction and radiation.
•
R
-
value is the measure of resistance to heat loss by
conduction only. The most important factor in
thermal efficiency is the continuity of the insulation.
•
The GPPAQNM system results in a solid envelope of
rigid foam insulation. Therefore, an structure has the
ability to resist heat transfer by conduction and
convection (air movement). It is reasonable to
assume that a conventional home would require an
R
-
40 wall and an R
-
60 roof to compete with a 6 inch
wall (R
-
24) and an 8 inch roof (R
-
32).
Skin Material
•
AQNMCEMENT SIPs are typically manufactured
of
reinforced cement boards, for inside and outside
skins. The material can be taped and finished on the
interior surface. The fire
-
resistive cement board
eliminates the need for gypsum drywall.
•
The exterior surface can be painted or coated with a vinyl
or synthetic stucco permanent finish. If siding or brick
veneer is to be used, oriented strand board (OSB) can be
applied on the exterior to accept nailing of siding or brick
wall ties.
•
It is not necessary to have both OSB and fiber
-
cement
board on one side for brick and stucco applications. OSB
can be used instead of fiber
-
cement board for such an
application.
Certifications
•
The viability of a building material lies in its
ability to consistently perform at a level higher
than established governmental regulations.
•
Our Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) comply
with all required California building regulations.
In addition, they are completely recognized by
HUD, FHA, and the VA loan programs.

and above grade applications. They can be
used to construct foundation or basement
walls, floors spanning up to 16 feet between
supports, load

bearing walls up to four stories
and roof panels up to 20 foot spans.

Details and Connections
•
AQNMCEMENT SIPs are fastened
together with power
-
driven
screws through the inner and
outer skins into either cement
board. Because of the strength of
the panels, no headers are
needed over standard size doors
and windows. Connection details
are similar to those of OSB
-
sheathed panels.
Erection
•
AQNMCEMENT SIPs are
lightweight, and panels
can be erected by as
few as three workers,
with minimal
equipment.
Benefits Overview
•
So why should you build a SIPs
-
framed
structure instead of a stud
-
framed structure?
•
The simple answer to this question is that SIPs
provide more benefits than stud
-
framed
structures. SIPs are also equal or will exceed
state and jobsite requirements. US
Department of Energy factsheet states that
"Buildings made of SIPs appear to be safer
than some other types, even in fire."
What are the Energy benefits of
building with SIPs?
Environmentally Responsible.
Saving energy means less fossil fuel consumption and
far less greenhouse gas emissions. SIP technology
provides higher “whole
-
wall” R
-
value, tightens the
building envelope, and reduces air infiltration
resulting in Energy Efficiency.
Energy Efficiency.
SIPs can save between 40% and 50% on heating and
cooling costs! SIPs keep costs down from season to
season, year after year. The Partnership for Advancing
Technology (PATH), a government agency, singled out
SIPs as one of the best ways to build more energy
-
efficient homes and to meet their goals of cutting
energy use in housing by 50% or more by the year
2010.

Enjoying a Quieter and Healthier
Living Environment
•
EPS insulation is an excellent sound barrier.
•
The naturally tight construction
of a SIP shell helps prevent
dust, allergens and pests
from penetrating the home.
Insulation and Thermal Efficiency
•
The foam core of SIPs provide excellent
sound and thermal insulation and are
available in different thicknesses to suit
the needs of your jobsite. Homeowners
also benefit from lower heating and
cooling costs. In addition, the insulative
foam acts as a moisture barrier keeping
moisture outside during rain, snow, or
any severe weather conditions."If you
are not using SIPs as your core building
material you are not serious about
energy efficiency.“
•
AQNMCEMENT SIPs are as much more
energy efficient than
OSB SIPs. And
many other building systems such as ICF
and Pre
-
cast concrete or regular wood
frame.
Consumers often think that R
-
value is of primary importance, but
effective air sealing is also significant.
For the best energy performance, a
continuous air barrier and uniform
insulation coverage, with as few gaps as
possible, are needed. Every air leak and
every thermal bridge adds to heating
and cooling bills. AQNMCEMENT SIP
panels are air
-
tight and fully insulated.

On the Worksite
•
Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) can greatly accelerate work completion on
the jobsite. SIPs can be installed by fewer workers in a shorter time without
the use of specialized tools or equipment.
•
Installation of SIP floors, walls, and roofs is straightforward and fast.
Because SIPs are relatively light (usually less than 4 lbs per square foot),
floor panels and first
-
floor walls can be sized to be hand
-
installed. Upper
floor wall panels and roof panels are generally positioned with a light
weight crane or hoist.
•
To customize a solution for you, we cut and fabricate, based upon your blue
print design. The controlled climate in our factory reduces the time that
building materials are exposed to weather
-
damaging conditions. SIP
components are then shipped to your job site in larger dimensional sizes
than other building materials, in a ready
-
to
-
assemble package. By the time
the components reach the job site, you need only to install the components
in place and the framing is done.
•
In the end, SIPs generally cost nearly the same as lesser quality building
materials. The elimination of job site waste that incurs landfill fees, and
reduction in labor costs due to accelerated construction schedules, plus
faster dry
-
in times saves time & money that can be used for other tasks.
Labor costs
•
Labor is a big part of construction costs. SIPs reduce labor costs
because they require fewer workers to install and can be erected
in a fraction of the time needed for a stud
-
framed structure.
•
Custom made and ready to assemble, these Structural Insulated
Panels (SIPs) are pre
-
engineered at the factory and delivered to
the job site as a complete package. With GPPAQNM Panels'
custom designed system and pre
-
numbered panel installation is
performed with ease, allowing for a considerable reduction of on
-
site time, on
-
site labor, and the length of time the Structural
Insulated Panels are exposed to outside elements.
•
The Structural Insulated Panel system is a sectional portion of the
floors, walls, ceiling and/or roof consisting of a 6 to 12 inch core
panels of Expanded Polystyrene laminated between two layers of
(Fiber Cement) or other engineered materials. These panels are
pre
-
manufactured as specified and assembled on site.
•
The Structural Insulated Panel system easily reduces on

site labor
by up to 40%.

More Benefits…
Strength.
SIPs are much stronger than conventional construction methods.
SIPs structural characteristics are similar to a steel I
-
beam.
Test results and natural disasters have proven that panels are stronger. Homes
built with SIPs withstood the Great Hanshin (Kobe, Japan) and North Ridge
earthquakes, as well as Hurricane Andrew in the SE U.S.
Fire Resistance.
SIPs have passed every standard fire test required of wood based or
type V construction.
The key element of fire safety is the protection of the SIPs and any other
underlying structure with 15
-
minute thermal barriers, such as gypsum
wallboard.
Ventilation.
In many areas ventilation is a code requirement.
This system brings fresh air into the building and exhaust moisture laden and
stale air to the outside. Often they combine with filter systems or other fresh
air devices.
More Benefits…..
Ready to assemble.
•
Accurate and complete design documentation.
•
Precise manufacturing of components.
•
Site assembly drawings provided
•
Precut SIPs
•
Installed lumber wherever possible
•
Precut post, beams, headers, beam pockets
•
Packaged for handling
•
Assembly Accessories
•
Substantial reduction in the build cycle time
More Benefits…
Save Time.
–
Residential and commercial projects are built faster.
–
Up to 30% faster!!!
–
The framing, sheathing and insulating are combined
in one step.
–
SIPs are also made in large sizes up to 8ft by 24ft so
assembly on
-
site is faster, framing crews are far
more productive, and the project is “dried
-
in
sooner.
–
Labor savings resulting from shorter construction
time and less job
-
site waste.
Homeowner Benefits
•
Energy efficiency
-
by far the biggest
benefit of the SIP system. Save 40% to
60% on both heating and cooling costs
-
forever!
•
The perimeter of a SIPs home is wrapped
in EPS insulation without the thermal
breaks that are present in conventional
2x framing. Also, EPS insulation
maintains its integrity over time,
whereas
batt
insulation settles and
absorbs moisture.
•
The University of Tennessee and the US
Department Of Energy compared 5
different building systems for clear
-
wall
R
-
value verses whole
-
wall R
-
value. The
test concluded that SIPs maintain 88% of
their clear
-
wall performance after whole
-
wall R
-
value is measured, 58% better
than 2x6 stick
-
framing.

What is green building?
•
Green buildings (sustainable buildings) are buildings
that meet present needs without compromising the
ability of future generations to meet their needs. They
are designed to use our environmental resources
wisely.
•
Green building employs materials and methods which
reduce the depletion of non
-
renewable resources, and
encourages innovations like recycling and pollution
reduction.
Is the Aquentium system code
approved and warrantee?
•
GPPAQNM
is approved by HUD, and
International Code Council (ICC). Our panels
have been tested by RADCO, an independent
third party testing agency, for strength and
performance.
•
offers a limited lifetime warranty against panel

•
What else can you build with SIPs?
•
How about a church?
•
A resort?
•
Maybe an entire housing complex?
•
The possibilities are nearly limitless.
Do GPPAQNM SIPs contain
harmful chemicals?
•
GPPAQNM
SIPs have been tested for the
presence of formaldehyde by a state university
and no traces were detected.
•
DO NOT produce off
-
gassing of harmful chemicals
such as CFC's.
•
Our SIPs are technically inert and pose no threat

How do you ventilate an
GPPAQNM roof?
•
A ventilated roof is not necessary in most climates as
once was thought. Since our roof results in an open
or vaulted ceiling, the opportunity for a "
hot attic
"
does not exist.
•
Both Elk Shingle and CertainTeed Shingle warranty
their shingles over the Roof system with or without
ventilation.
How do you control pests in SIPs?
•
The foam insulation of SIPs provides
no
nutritional value for ants, termites, etc. While
some panel manufacturers offer borate treated
foam, unless the exterior sheathing is also
treated, it is not an effective deterrent.
•
If such pests are a problem in your area, you
should rely on standard preventative measures
(such as spraying the building's perimeter).
How do you control moisture in a
SIPs building?
•
Our structures are is so
air tight
we recommend the
use of an air exchanger. In fact, many state building
codes require an air exchanger in all new construction
(regardless of the type of building materials used).
•
Air exchangers control humidity and create a healthier
living environment.
•
Also recommends the use of a moisture barrier wrap
and seam tape.
How does the cost of a SIP
structure compare to stick
-
built?
•
Depending upon the cost of labor and materials in your
local area, the finished cost of an GPPAQNM SIP
structure is comparable to stick framing. Material cost
may be slightly higher, but the framing labor costs will
be lower.
•
The real savings is realized after your building is
completed and you can begin to
save 50% or more
on
heating and cooling costs, and you will continue to save
for as long as you live in your home.
