1INTERNET DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY
CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
Program Overview:
This program will prepare you for career opportunities in Web design
and development. We start out with the basics of Web and graphic
design technologies to form a strong foundation. You will then choose
track options in either Web design or Multimedia design to focus your
skills toward an emphasis that suits your career. In a final capstone class,
you will complete a comprehensive Web-based project.
Prerequisites:
This course requires a working knowledge of the Windows operating
system including navigating, creating, editing, and saving files and
folders; a working knowledge of modern web browsers; and an
understanding of basic web design terminology. For students who have
no prior knowledge or experience in web design, you are required
to enroll in Web Essentials prior to taking additional courses in this
program.
Our labs are equipped with Windows PC computers. Students have
the option of bringing and using their own personal PC or Mac notebook
computers in class. Bringing a 1GB or larger flash drive to class for saving
files is recommended.
Although we provide the required software programs in our
computer labs during instructional times, you will also need access to
the software, if applicable, at home or at work to complete some of the
exercises, assignments, and projects.
Certificate Requirements:
The program requires a minimum of 13.0 CEUs (130 in-class hours) in
order to earn an Internet Design and Technology Certificate. It is divided
into a core course section totaling 46 hours and different track options,
each totaling 84 hours. You must complete the core courses plus either
the Web Design or Multimedia Design tracks.
There is no limit on how many courses you can take during each
semester. If you have taken any of these courses previously at UNLV,
they may apply toward the certificate program. You may enroll in
individual courses without the intent of completing the certificate
program.

11CERTIFICATES IN PRINT DESIGN
(BASIC AND ADVANCED)

This program introduces you to the core print design software tools that
are used in the commercial printing and graphic design industry. The Basic
certificate is suitable for those who have no formal training and experience in
the graphic design industry and seek to understand the essential concepts of
print design and the applications designers use on a daily basis to complete
their projects. Graduates from the Basic certificate will understand the
various Adobe print design applications and how they are used together in
the workflow of a print design project. Students seeking further knowledge
and skills in the print design field may continue their learning by pursuing
the Advanced Certificate which expands their design skills in the various
applications as well as learn additional design theory and print communication
concepts and techniques.
The Advanced certificate is suitable for those who may be crossing
disciplines, such as web design to print design, or who are responsible for
marketing and designing materials in their current employment but have
no formal training and experience in the graphic design industry. Graduates
with the Advanced certificate will possess the knowledge base and skill sets
necessary for an entry-level position as a Production Artist in the professional
community.

24ONLINE WORKFORCE TRAINING PROGRAMS
UNLV Continuing Education in the Division of Educational Outreach offers online
career-training programs in partnership with ed2go (formerly Gatlin Education),
the leader in online certification programs. These self-paced programs prepare
students for developing expertise in their desired career fields, prepare them
for industry certification exams, and are designed with a team of professionals
to provide the most effective web-based learning experience possible.
Programs can be completed generally in less than six months and include
materials needed to succeed (books, lessons, quizzes, and assignments).
Instructors are actively involved in the students’ online learning experiences by
responding to any questions or concerns as well as encouraging and motivating
students to thrive. Grades are a combination of computer-graded tests and the
instructor’s evaluation of the students’ work. You will love the quality as well as
the convenience of anytime, anywhere learning.
