using iOS 4.1 SDK


Any student
that may want to try to
work on

an
h
omework
using the
iOS

SDK
(formerly called the iPho
n
e SD
K)
will have to perform all the following
steps:


1. Join the iOS Developer Program


Go to the
the
web page at:


http://developer.apple.com/programs/ios/


The cost of
the
developer membership is $99. Click on Enroll Now. You
will have to Register as an Apple Developer, select the iOS Developer
Program and pay
the annual fee.


You will need to have an Apple ID to register. If you have been using an
Apple ID to purchase music with iTunes, you may use that Apple ID to
regist
er. Register as
an “Individual Developer.”


You will need to create a Personal Profile. Ma
ke sure that the e
-
mail
address you use in the profile is a valid e
-
mail
address,
as Apple will send
a
verification code to such
e
-
mail address to complete the
registration

process.



You will also need a valid credit card to complete the registration proc
ess.
When asked, select the “iOS Devel
oper program” US$99 / year and a
gree
to the “iOS Developer Program License Agreement.”


Lastly, you will be directed to the Apple Online Store to purchase you
r

membership in the Apple Developer program.

In addition to
your purchase
confirmation email from the Apple Online Store, you will receive an email
from Apple Developer Support within 24 hours after your purchase. This
email will contain information on how to access the resources of the iOS
Developer Program.


2.
Down
load Xcode and the iOS SDK


Once
you have successfully registered
as an Apple Developer,
joined
the
iOS Developer Program,
and have received the confirmation e
-
mail from
Apple Developer Support, you
will be
directed
to download
and install
XCode and
the iOS
SDK. This process is much easier than the convoluted
installation of Android.
You will be directed to login
to
the iOS Dev Center
at:

x.action


You will need to download the iOS SDK 4.1. In particular, you will need to
download:

The “Xcode 3.2.4 and iOS SDK 4.1”
link points to
a very large (2.94GB)
compressed DMG file.
The DMG file should automatically expand and
mount on your desktop. Otherwise, d

click on the
DMG
file at the end
of the download to extract the volume containing the installation program

and mount it
.


Afte
r extraction, double
-
click on the “Xcode and iOS SDK” package
inside
the mounted volume
to start the installation. Accept all defaults. Once the
installation finishes, Xcode and the iOS SDK will
be installed in /Developer
on y
our Mac OS X startup disk.
