Rational:

This cou
rse provides training with new technologies and current technologies that
allows students to become productive, responsible, and successful members of
our diverse society.


Content:

Course provides thorough instruction of the Microsoft Office Suite with
em
phasis

on learning
the
PowerPoint and Access

programs in the Microsoft Office Suite.
Students will learn to combine parts of the Office Suite to solve specific business
problems.
Students will
also
learn voice recognition software
using
Dragon
Naturally Sp
eaking.

Students will review proper keyboarding technique,
computer etiquette, and computer terminology.

programs in the Microsoft Office Suite.
Students will be required to use
proper keyboarding technique. Students will
demonstrate mastery of Word and Excel by
completing comprehensive assignments using all Microsoft Office Programs
. Students will learn
things they will be able to use right away a
nd in the workplace, such as how to
create databases

and PowerPoint Presentations
.
Students will also work with
voice recognition software

accessing programs, documents, and creating documents
using
Dragon Naturally Speaking
.


Tentative Course Work:


Some
class assignments will be done in class from the texts listed above. Occasionally students
will be asked to complete a worksheet activity other than the textbook activities.


Because we are on block scheduling, students will be expected to
complete assignm
ents during
class
. It is important that they understand the computer programs thoroughly and ask questions
often. I will cover new concepts daily; therefore, student participation is required to ensure
complete understanding.


Students will complete a re
search project relating to new technology or business concepts.
Students will be required to use the Internet with this project in addition to library materials. The
project is worth a total of 150 points. Specific requirements and due dates will be giv
en at the
end of 3
rd

quarter.




Objectives:


1.

Create advanced PowerPoint presentations where sound and video are embedded.

2.

Create and manage Access databases, create tables, queries, reports, and forms within
those databases that will help the function of
a given business or organization.

3.

Utilize Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access to complete certain business related tasks
and complete a final research project based on new technologies.

4.

Demonstrate the ability to use voice recognitions software such as Dra
gon Naturally
Speaking to complete tasks on the computer.

5.

Create a basic web page using html in NotePad or other word processing program.

Grades:


Your grade will be based on scores that are from unit tests, projects, worksheets, quizzes,
technique, etc. T
ests, projects, worksheets, and technique each will be assigned a certain amount
of points possible. You will receive credit for the number of items correct with each activity.
Projects and worksheets are generally worth 15
-
25 points, tests worth 100 poi
nts, and quizzes

50 points.
Final research project will be worth a total of 150 points.
