Welcome, Roll

Introductions

Welcome to
special guest,
John Patton,
NACCD
Communications
Director

Gail Stolz, AK
,
Chair

Attendees: Gail Stolz (Alaska), Pam Geis (Wisconsin), Andrea Riley
(Nebraska),
John Patton (NACDD), Trish Herrmann (NACDD)

Gail discussed one of the challenges
for this
committee is how to effectively
communicate with members. Gail asked about the membership database and what
NACDD is planning to do to make membership li
sts for Council easier to manage.
The Diabetes Council has two lists; one for Program Coordinators and the other list
in Magnet Mail that has all members (DPCP staff and partners). Gail updated the
Magnet Mail list last fall; she noted which ones were asso
ciated with state DPCPs
and which were not (outside partners). Trish has not been trained on Magnet Mail
and is not sure if the current list has these two subgroups noted. (We’d like to be able
to send e
-
mails to all DPCP staff but don’t have the capabili
ty to do this at this time.)

John discussed Salesforce, the software package NACDD
is

using to manage the
NACDD members. John said this might not be best tool for NACDD. It requires a
lot of training. John is now looking into alternative programs/softwar
e packages.

Salesforce can send e

mails. i

to send it.

icontact is an e

and
it also has a
database

to manage lists
. J
ohn thinks this may be a
solution. It has analytics (

Trish will become more
familiar with icontac

John.

John and

NACDD will
decide on software that
they will use for database

was open, ect.)

NACDD
has not committed yet to using i
conta
ct. Pam asked about using one
i
contact list for NACDD and have sub lists for councils a
nd committees.
John is not
sure if the software can handle the number of lists and sublists that would be required
to do this.

Gail asked about how NACDD is promoting communica
tion among

members (such
as bulletin board
s
). Joh
n does not think the website
is meeting all member needs
. To
make it better

and add functions, it is very expensive
. NACDD is looking at other
options.

Some software allows members to communicate with each other and helps unifies
membership.

The
current
website does not have any an
alytics (e.g., number of hits).

In the interim, NACDD is ramping up their social media presence. They are using
Linked in, twitter, facebook, ect. Many state health departments do not have access
to these websites
.
John is investigating

some products to r
amp up website
capabilities.

He is hoping to have some potential solutions later this fall.

Jeanne Alongi, a public health consultant, is heading up integration and
communication for NACDD.

John is going to start an
NACDD
communications committee. It
will be a very active
committee. They will help make some of the product decisions.
It was agreed that a
member of the Diabetes Council Membership and Communications committee
would be part of this new committee.

The last two agenda items (the draft comm
unications plan and member surveys)
were tabled for an August meeting.

Adjourn

The meeting was adjourned at 1 pm ET.

Since not all agenda items were discussed, the next meeting was scheduled for Aug.
9, 12
-
1 pm ET (will be confirmed once Andrea’s ava
ilability is confirmed.
