The Indonesian International Palm Oil Conference (IIPOC)
2013, held side by side with the 5th Palmex Indonesia 2013,
an international palm oil exhibition organized by PT Fireworks
Indonesia in Medan on the 2-3 October 2013. More than 5,000
industry professionals from more than 10 countries turned
up at the last Palmex Indonesia 2012 and the show is highly
acclaimed as the World’s largest palm oil technology exhibition.
IIPOC 2013 themed “Revealing the new chapter in the world’s
largest palm oil industry!” provides a strategic platform for
interaction and in-depth deliberation of the many facets of oil
palm and the palm oil industry from innovations, challenges
and the latest developments especially in Indonesia who is
currently the largest palm oil producer in the world. This event
is only limited to 100 seats and available on a ￿rst-case-served
basis.

The Development of ISPO
After ISPO has launched it scheme on March 2011, ISPO commission has been
creating more mechanism base on rule and regulation and the ISPO Technical
Team work has ￿nished to make ISPO as one complete certi￿cation system.
After 2 years the Team evaluate the performance of ISPO scheme and conclude
that more input and work are needed to improve its system.
For improvement of the system the ISO the standards and the certi￿cation
system should be revise, the ISPO seminar on the 24 of September 2013 In
Jakarta, with objectives to strengthen ISPO is to receive input from many stake
holders. The new is on Moratorium and the inclusion of Protected Area Criteria
in replace of High Conservation Value Criteria and also the addition of the
guidance on how to handle biodiversity inside of plantations.
ISPO now has already given certi￿cate to I9 plantations companies and approve
9 certi￿cation bodies, ISPO targeted to have more than 50 companies to be
certi￿ed by the end of 2013,
By the end of this year ISPO will also launch Plasma smallholders scheme and
Independent Smallholders Scheme , which base on ISPO Team survey results
and testing in numbers of plantations in the provinces.
ISPO Plasma smallholders have only 6 principles and ISPO independent
smallholders have only 4 principles as follows.
The principles of plasma smallholders scheme:
There 6 principles in ISPO Plasma smallholders which are:
1. Compliance with rules and regulations on legal permit
2. Plantations management Implementation of best practices in
plantations and mills
3. Responsible implementation of environment regulations and
conservation of natural resources
4. Responsibility upon employees
5. Responsibility upon individuals and community a￿ected by plantations
and mill
6. Commitment to long term economic empowerment
Meanwhile the ISPO independent smallholders will only implement 4
principles :
1. Compliance with rules and regulations on legal permit
Plantations management Implementation of best practices in
plantations and mills
2. Responsible implementation of environment regulations and
conservation of natural resources
3. Responsibility upon individuals and community a￿ected by plantations
and mill
4. Commitment to long term economic empowerment
The certi￿cation system for the two type of smallholders already prepared,
ISPO plan to implement the Smallholders Scheme by the end of the year of
2013.

EXPERIENCE AT LMC
Based at LMC’s o￿ces in Singapore where she works on a range of commodities in the key South-
East Asia markets. Prior to joining LMC, Meezy was employed in the Plantations Section at LG
Corporation in Korea. She was responsible for selecting candidate plantations through conducting
market research and legal, ￿nancial and technical feasibility studies, and for developing investment
structures. Plantation crops included oil palm, sugar and co￿ee.
Since joining LMC, Meezy has built on her plantations experience at LG by carrying out extensive
research into the palm oil industries of Indonesia and Malaysia. LMC’s Oil Palm Annual Report 2012
includes regional analysis in each country of the key factors which determine production: area under
palm, the age distribution of the trees, the yields, the e￿ect of climate and of labour availability. The
implications of policy, in particular export taxes and sustainability criteria, were also areas of major
focus for the study. Meezy’s contribution was enhanced considerably by her ability to speak Bahasa,
allowing her access to details of Indonesian operations in both the upstream and downstream
processing sectors.

Focuses on clean energy and environmental management projects. He has more than
20 years of experience in project management and delivering technical assistance
in methane capture technologies, cleaner production and energy e￿ciency, and
environmental assessments. Mr. Franco is currently the Senior Biogas Specialist for
the Indonesia Clean Energy Development (ICED) Project, where he provides technical
assistance in the planning, design, and implementation of biogas projects in the palm
oil industry through due diligence and feasibility studies, Resource Assessments and
training. He has managed and provided technical assistance to the Global Methane
Initiative (GMI) biogas projects in China, Latin America, Eastern Europe and South East
Asia. As part of these projects, Mr. Franco provided a number of technical and institutional
development services to assist GMI in implementing approaches and practices to
reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions, while also increasing rural economic development
and pollution control. Mr. Franco holds a BSc in Chemical Engineering and a MSE in
Environmental Engineering and Chemistry.

Agronomist Engineer with extensive knowledge of the agricultural sector and biogas
production from waste. As part of his experience, he has gathered data and developed
excel based models for biogas production systems including cost bene￿t analysis for
several dairy and pig farms, as well as for agro-industries. He is actively participating
in a biogas business development strategy for Latin America for the Agroindustrial,
Wastewater and Land￿ll sectors, approaching potential clients both with a technical and
commercial focus. Mr. Pichard is currently part of the bio-energy team working under
the Indonesia Clean Energy Development project and is supporting the development
of a Low Emission Development Strategy for Guatemala under USAID’s FCMC project.
Christian speaks Spanish, English and French ￿uently and has worked in Chile, New
Zealand and France. He received his Agronomist Engineer degree from Ponti￿cia
Universidad Católica de Chile in 2005 and holds a Master of Engineering in Biological
and Environmental Engineering from Cornell University.

MR. JOHN HARTMANN
(Cargill Tropical Palm Holdings Pte Ltd. Singapore)
As the Chief Operating O￿cer of Cargill Tropical Palm Holdings Pte Ltd (“CTP”), John
Hartmann is responsible for the daily operation of the company. CTP owns and operates
70,000 hectares of palm plantations located in South Sumatra and West Kalimantan,
Indonesia. CTP employs 8750 employees and works with close to 10,000 farmers in the
production of Crude Palm Oil.
John’s 24-year career with Cargill began in 1987 when he started as a plant manager trainee
with Cargill Animal Nutrition. For the next eight years, John held various management
positions in USA and Poland. In 1995, he assumed the role of Animal Nutrition Division
project manager for all new global constructions and was also production manager for
a portfolio of facilities in USA, Indonesia and Vietnam. John made his foray into the oil
palm business in 1998 as general manager of Cargill’s Hindoli plantation before being
promoted into his current role in 2005.
John graduated from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology with a Bachelor of
Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He grew up on a family farm in South Dakota and now lives in Singapore with his wife
and three children.

DR. ROSEDIANA SOEHARTO
The chairperson in charge of the Indonesian Palm Oil Commission since it was established
by the Minister of Agriculture in March 2003. She is a doctorate from the University of
Aston in the United Kingdom, and Master of Science fro the Macquarie University, Sydney,
Australia – all in the ￿eld of Chemistry. As a season diplomat by experience she is been a
government for more than 36 years holding such a positions as advisor to the Minister
of Trade and Industry and the Head of the Research of Development Agency of Ministry
and many position as director. She also has experience in production and marketing of
agriculture products (rubber, cocoa, co￿ee, cashew nut etc), she was engaged with Word
Bank and ADB as consultant. She is a executive chairman of Indonesian Sustainable Palm
Oil Commission (ISPO Commission).

Director in Tetra Tech ES and specializes in energy, environment, and economic growth.
He has over 25 years total (20 years international) experience and has led assignments
supporting government agencies, industry associations, and private companies in the
design and implementation of renewable energy, energy e￿ciency, environmental
impact assessment, environmental management, rural economic development and
sustainable tourism. He has worked for a wide variety of donor organizations including
Asian Development Bank, European Union, Inter American Development Bank, U.S. Agency
for International Development, and The World Bank. He has worked on projects in over 30
countries in Africa, Asia, Caribbean, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East. ,

Bill is serving as Tetra Tech’s Chief of Party on the 3.5 years USAID-funded Indonesia Clean
Energy Development (ICED Project). Bill prepared Tetra Tech’s proposal and is directing
and managing the implementation of the project that includes improving energy sector
policy and coordination, increasing development and investment in clean energy projects,
increasing institutional capacity and public awareness, and small grants program.

Since 2011 until now, Mr. Rajesh Khosla took up the responsibilities as a President Director
and CEO of PT. Jindal Stainless Indonesia which is the only one Stainless Steel Manufacturing
company in Indonesia.
In his working area as a President Director and CEO he is trying to develop Indonesia Stainless
Steel consumption up to the level international standard.
