To create a 21

?

Before

‘Well the layout of the
library is just rubbish.
And the spiral
staircases what are
they all about? You
get dizzy by the time
you get to the top and
then you don’t want to
read a book so you
come down.’

Field Research Report

Research findings

Many students requested an area
in which they could have a coffee
and a chat and maybe also do
their homework

The LRCs themselves are small
enough to have become territorial
space. Students even reported
incidents of bullying in these
spaces

The furniture used in LRCs is
institutional and not suited to
either group or individual study

The walls in the LRC are visually
busy due to the quantity of signs.
Signs are generally handmade
and for the most part negative in
tone usually enforcing rules

Old equipment is left lying about
because there is a lack of storage
space
