explore strategies to create a positive, collaborative classroom community and research

teaching strategies appropriate for their diverse students.


Implications of Poverty for Teaching and Learning

is a self

paced Moodle course. This course
will explore current research on the effects of poverty on our economically disadvantaged
students,

as well as strategies that may be effective for building relationships and delivering
classroom instruction. Content in Moodle will be available on January 2, 2013. Registration is
now available on MyPD.

Poverty Simulation

is an interactive and experi
ential

workshop to help administrators and
school
-
based staff understand the daily challenges faced by many of our economically
disadvantaged families.

Participants will go through a scenario in which they become part of a
family and have to "survive" livi
ng in poverty. This
morning
activity is in preparation for the
afternoon session which will be based on the book

A Framework for Understanding Poverty

by
Ruby Payne, PhD. along with other related research on the impact of poverty on education.

n is only open to Title I educators.
