Hiab’s new skip loader demonstrator shows its versatility

Hiab is showing the market how versatile its SLT skip loading equipment is
by putting a
demonstrator on the road in combination with an 18 tonne DAF chassis.

The demonstrator has been built in partnership with specialist vehicle hire company SHB Hire and
is available from now until the end of the year for operators to give the H
iab skip loader a thorough
try out.

There are two models in Hiab’s SLT skip loader range: the SLT142 designed for 18 tonne two
trucks and the SLT192 for 26 tonne three
axle trucks. Both are able to handle skips, containers
and platforms of different

sizes and capacities. The demonstrator is fitted with the SLT142 for skips
from three to ten cubic metre capacity but the larger SLT192 can handle up to 20 cubic metre

To achieve the rapid turn
round times required in skip handling both
models are

designed to pick
up the container horizontally with no lifting angle and, by means of the telescopic arms, to lift it over
obstacles such as fences or walls. A fast speed function that activates when unloading or when no
container is being lifted also in
creases efficiency. And the unique design of the lifting arms allows
them to be operated together or individually in order to cope with an adverse approach angle.

For added safety during operation the double
acting lifting and support legs are mounted at

angle to provide maximum stability. They can be positioned individually and at different lengths to
deal with uneven ground and feature an in
cab optical warning system. An automatic safety latch
is fitted to the p
neumatically operated tipping hook.

Controls are very user
friendly with a very positive feel to them even when wearing work gloves
and they incorporate both load holding and hose failure valves as additional safety measures.
Once a container is loaded adjustable skip stops at the front and
both sides ensure its security
during transit.

The rear beam has been ‘E marked’ and type approved as a rear under
run bar in line with Whole
Vehicle Type Approval requirements.

Alastair Evans, Hiab National Sales Manager, said: “Our SLT range is low in

weight at just 2,900
kg for the 18 tonne model and 3,800 kg for the 26 tonne model. This ensures good gross payloads
of around 10 tonnes and 19 tonnes respectively, depending on the chassis to which they are fitted.
In the case of the 18 tonne SLT142 it i
s around 300 kg lighter than our closest competitor.

“With our skip loaders coming from the same stable as our renowned Hiab truck
mounted cranes
and our Multilift demount systems operators can be assured that they will be buying equipment that
has been d
esigned, tested and manufactured to the highest quality standards. These products are
robust and durable and able to withstand the rigours of skip work and are fully proven in service.

“We currently have our SLT142 18 tonne skip loader available in the UK

from stock for immediate
fitment so can offer fast delivery and competitive prices.

Once the equipment is in service our
national network of agents ensures that local support is readily to hand.”

Operators wishing to try the Hiab SLT142 skip loader demon
strator should call Mark Stapley at
Hiab’s UK headquarters in Shropshire on 01691 623100 to make a booking.
