Dear
Parents/Guardians,

It is with excitement that I welcome you to the 2013
-
2014 schoo
l

year
. I look forward to seeing the

returning students, and welcome new students to our Myers family.
I hope you and your children had a
restful summer and are gearing up

for the school year.

In preparing for the
school year, I

continue to be vigilant about school safety
. My top priority is
maintaining a safe environment where
our
students can learn and achieve. As always, my door is open,
and I welcome ongoing communic
ation with all members of the Myers community.

Here are a few points I want to mention:

As I indicated in the closing letter I sent home

in June 2013
, the building will be open for
students at

7:40
a.m.

Please make appropriate child care accommodations, if needed.

Drop
-
off will begin at 7:40 a
.
m
.

following the same traffic pattern, near the 6
th

grade wing, that
was instituted last year.

Please remember that if you are visiting the building at any ti
me, ID is required. Everyone will
be asked to show ID before they enter the building.

The district recently changed the parent communication system from Goo
gle Groups to School
Messenger.
School Messenger will provide you with an extensive menu that will

allow you to
access

specific options regarding

information from our school that you wish to receive. I have
enclosed the directions necessary to register on School Messenger and strongly urge you
to

utilize this system moving forward.

Another high prior
ity of mine is student achievement. Maintaining a
connection with
the
community

is
a vital component
. I recently developed a free Math tutoring program called “Math Help Matters.” This
program will be facilitated by retired teachers from the Wappingers
Central School District and retired
IBM employees. Two, ten
-
week sessions will be offered

on Tuesday nights from 6
-
7

p
.
m
. The first
session will be
gin

on October 8
th

and t
he second session

will begin on January 21
st
.
This is not a drop
-
off program
. Pa
rents are expected to remain in the classroom and receive instruction
along with

their
child. A parent letter/sign
-
up form will be sent out in the middle of September.
